Trading Spaces appreciation thread

Here’s some info. about Alex being “fired”:

Apparently she had a major attitude problem off camera.

I agree with those who like Vern best - he does seem to be the only one who not only wants to create a great room, but wants to create a room that the homeowners will like. Hilde doesn’t care one way or the other (too bad - the “hay room” would have been a nice room actually, except for the hay) and Doug is the same way. Frank’s rooms are always the same - peach. I sometimes like Genevieve or Laurie’s rooms, but not always.

Oh, and Amy Wynn kicks butt over Ty…

Man, I LOVE this show.

Frank is adorable!
I’ve liked most of the re doings, except the one where (I forget who did it) made curtains all over the walls(it was a basement room).
It looked like a circus tent!

As was mentioned before, Genevive is so the bomb. I think she would be a cool date. On the other hand Vern is always consistant in putting out great designs. I’d have to put Vern in my family room and Genevive in the bedroom roooooowl!

Dez was the worst designer for a home EVER !!! She might have been alright for doing a hip store or a night club, but christ was her stuff too much for a house. Awful, awful.

For carpenters, I pick Amy Wynn. How many time has Vern gone out to Ty and to correct the stuff he’s made? Or Ty’s brought an item in the room and it doesn’t fit? Ok, maybe not that many times, but it’s happened a couple. Besides, I would love the oppertunity to say, “Amy Wynn, Genevive and I need you in the bedroom.” ROOOOWLLLLLLLL!

I like Changing Rooms also. Too bad it isn’t an hour long like TS. Changing Rooms is great for train wrecks. Check this out. The couple in clip #6 were some of the worst people on any show from either country, not that the clip really shows it. Durring the show they almost came to full-on, yelling argument with the designer.

We watch this when we can, even my kids get transfixed. Vern would be fun to hang out with, I think Frank would be fun to have dinner with. It’s fun to watch people recoil when they find out they have to work with Hilde, but at least their home is not being done by her. I just saw the one this weekend where she tried to pain striped couches magenta, and then the rain ruined them. Paige let her go over budget and buy new stuff.

One thing I always doubt is that they actually hit their budgets. When we shop everything costs a fortune, particularly furniture and fabric.

Who was the red-haired one with dark glasses and a southern accent? I haven’t seen her in a while.

Oh, Amy is sexy, something about a woman who can use power tools, and Genevieve is a hotty. Paige is interesting, I bet she has an evil, sadistic side beneath that perky exterior.

Re: the budget. Vern seems to be a big believer in having things on hand. It sounds like he’s always scouting flea markets, antique stores, etc looking for bargains. Then when he does a TS job, he’ll whip out one of his finds. If he had to start from scratch and buy everything after starting the project, I doubt he’d do as well.

I Loooove Trading Spaces! We don’t get TLC so a friend of mine tapes them and every few weeks we get 2 full tapes in the mail. TS marathon! Vern and Gen are my favorites. Frank is fun to watch but I would cry if he ever redid one of my rooms. We make bets to see how many different pastel paint colors he will choose each time.

I love it when someone has a sacred object and leaves strict instructions not to touch it, signs taped on it, etc. It never fails…that will be the one piece the designer planned the whole room around! If you don’t want something re-done, don’t choose that room.

My friends and I wanted to try to get on the show but you have to live actually on the same street (they live one street over.)

Ty rules!

Even having the object in a different room wouldn’t help. It really bugs me when they grab stuff from the rest of the house. Especially when they grab stuff from other rooms and repaint it. I would be fuming if they did that.

Ty is hot.

Dez, I think, is the designer fired after the first season. Have they re-run any of her shows?

I like Paige better as a host…she’s more bubbly. Although, in the infamous hay wall episode, she got a little sarcastic with the people working on the hay wall (she was very condescending) and I think I would have been hard pressed not to slap her if I were the HO.

The hay on the wall was unforgivable. Funny enough, Genevive designed the kitchen on the show, and it was absolutely adorable. Just once, though, I would like to see a homeowner scream in horror “What the hell did you do to my house???”

Dream show…working with Frank, having Laurie (the redhead) or Vern design my room.

Nightmare show…working with Doug (the man has the personality of a wet mop) and having Hilde design my room (magenta taupe magenta taupe all around the room…orthogonal, not plaid)

discovery.com has a link to TLC, and there’s a message board there on the show.

Laurie, Frank, and Vern are all gods. GODS.

Doug totally rubs me the wrong way. Brrrr. . . . I usually think his rooms come out alright in the end, but I would hate to have to work with him.

I love both Ty and Amy Wynn. People who can work with power tools without accidentally amputating their thumbs get auto-props from me. Plus, the both turn me on in wierd ways.

Dear god. . . Trading Spaces fanfic???

This, IMHO, is why the World Wide Web exists. Just when you think that your own habit has gotten woefully out of hand, you find the people that show that you’re nothing but a wannabe, not fit to polish the shoes of the Loserville City Council.

I love this show!!
Agreeably, Hilde’s ideas are scary. I saw the hay wall episode and the home-owners were freaking out. Love Vern–way classy and he is really concerned that the home-owners enjoy the result. Laurie is usually good, I love her use of color and fabrics. Gen is into the Asian themes, which I like, but too overboard on the nature thing. Frank is an amazing artist, but his designs are not my style at all! Doug’s stuff is okay, but he seems really difficult to work with.

I would love to work with Laurie and have Vern do my place

Wow.

I mean, wow. I never again have to worry about being too into this show.

Can’t agree more with this!!! A few times Laurie or Gen have grabbed a chair, picture frame, or whatnot from some other random room in the house and asked the other homeowner to make some massive change to it. I mean, the owner gives approval for ONE room, right? Not to ransack the rest of the house and destroy whatever heirlooms they can get their hands on. Laurie asked one couple to spray paint a wicker chair black that she found in the kitchen and the couple didn’t do it because they knew it wasn’t “approved”. I was so happy  I’d be LIVID if they took things from other rooms without asking.

Alex left on her own to pursue other things. She wasn’t fired. In another message board dedicated to TS, some of the cast members or people-in-the-know have verified that Alex left on her own accord. She may have had a blow-up or three, but for the most part everyone on the set liked her. That other message board is great, by the way. People that post there include Paige, Paige’s mom, Genevieve, Vern, some of the homeowners, and other members of the cast and crew.

Hmm, I heard differently on other forums. See also the quote and links from mcms_cricket above. Not being asked back is the same as canned in my book. It did not seem like she was well liked at all. Now that they are rid of her, of course they are decent enough not to bad mouth her- there is no need, and it would only make them look bad. Sorry, I am real skeptical on the revisionist history “not really fired” line which has come out lately- as it seemed pretty clear at the beginning of season two when the news broke that she was let go. You can seach here for more details. I am not saying your wrong, just that I am skeptical, especially seeing the “pursue other things line.” Which is pure P.R. spin for getting canned.

Note, if they had any other “things” to pursue- they would have named them in the press release. The new cover line is “to spend more time with their family” (see i.e. Elvis Gerbac and Michael Jordan)- but I guess Alex had no kids. . . .

I stand by my canned (snort).

-me

I love the TWOP site… without it I would’ve completely missed the scene where you can see Hildi’s flapdoodles down her shirt.

Okay, I just wanna say how much I love this show, too. All of my friends make fun of me.

Ty is hot. Mmmmm.

Gen is cool. Doug’s rooms usually look nice, but what an ass! And Hilde needs a swift kick in her butt (which, have you ever noticed, she sure seems to flaunt? Please!).

I would type more, but (and I’m so very not kidding) it’s gonna be on in, like, 5 min.

Whoa. Point me there. I was reading some of the recaps today (slow day at work) and didn’t see this!

You’re surprised there’s fanfic for this? Come on, the repairperson cliche is one of the oldest in the porn business. Are you The Dude from The Big Lebowski?

[After showing him a clip from the porn movie starring Bunny.]
Maude Lebowski: You can imagine where it goes from here.
The Dude: He fixes the cable?

Anyone else think Paige and Doug are gettin it on? Sometimes the seem a little bit too flirty.

Paige needs to eat a sandwich, though.

You replied 4 1/2 months later?

Paige is married. Doug and Amy Wynn Pastor would be my pointless guess in that line- as they are pretty chumy.

Hildy and Gen are always all over Ty too.

The trading spaces “ta ta” shot is stock- there was one last night. Gen’s assets are the ones usually on display- I almost think she does it on purpose, the barefooted little show-off.

Anyone agast at the purple room last Saturday. There’s one “guest” designer which doesn’t need to be asked back.

hehe. I did a search, and figured I’d put it in here rather than start a new one.
