Trailer for "Hail Caesar", Coen Bros next flick is out

and can be found here.

I must say I’m moderately amused by said trailer, with its actor mix of the Coen brothers’ usual suspects plus newbies.

I can’t say their last effort, “Inside Llewyn Davis” amused me all that much, so I’m hoping for better things this time around.

Anyone else anticipating much?

I always highly anticipate Coen brothers movies. Inside Llewyn Davis wasn’t their most “Coenesque” film, but I thought it was pretty good taken on its own terms.

This movie, however, looks like they’re back to their old style again. One of their old styles, at least. I’m surprised they picked what looks like the 40s or 50s again, since the themes of writing a movie in 1940s Hollywood was already covered in their really great, underappreciated film Barton Fink. This looks like a larger production, however, with an all-star cast, so maybe they wanted to try again with a bigger budget. Certainly it isn’t the same movie plot- or character-wise.

Looking forward to it. Shit, George Clooney, Francis McDormand, Scarlett Johannsen…what’s not to like?
They’ve had a few misses over the years but who hasn’t? They’ve entertained me royally more often than not so they are always worth a look.

The trailer alone is a crackup. Hopefully the movie is just as good.

Hearing Scarlett with that accent cracks me up.

Someday the Coens and Wes Anderson should make a movie together.

I haven’t seen a movie in the theater in over a year, but this one looks like it might be worth checking out.

I was thinking much the same, They both have a certain aesthetic that makes their films very distinctive.

Of course because they are so distinctive a collaboration could either be brilliant or terrible.

Their overt comedies appeal to me more than their dramas. They always get the balance right.

This looks really bad. Looks basically like a Hudsucker Proxy-style crapfest with dashes of Intolerable Cruelty and/or The Ladykillers.

George Clooney’s goofing around was the weakest parts of Burn After Reading and O Brother, Where Art Thou? So we’re getting more of that. :frowning:

I’m disappointed to see it isn’t coming out until next year.

My most memorable movie going experience was seeing No Country For Old Men in a very packed theater on the night of Thanksgiving 2007.

I hope to repeat that experience with a Coen brothers film someday. This films looks like it would have been perfect. Oh well.

The trailer hooked me.

The Coen Bros. are hit or miss, but this looks like it could be a hit. I’ll definitely see it when it comes out.
