I think I like this view the best of all. It appeals to the Nietzschean in me that says all civilization and greatness is built on vast amounts of misery.

In the current socioeconomic context, it’s particularly seductive. In normal times people say, “you can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.” I would like us to at least entertain the thought that in times like these, you can’t make an omelet without breaking people.
