Transferring iTunes songs/playlists from old to new computer

I just bought a new computer and want to transfer my iTunes library and playlists to the new computer. I have an external drive that I can use as temporary storage. I’ve copied the library to the external drive but I only can import one folder (singer/group) at a time into iTunes and can’t import the playlists at all.

Since I have a very large library with over a hundred folders this method will take hours and then I will have to recreate all my dozens of playlists. There has got to be a better way.

Help!

While I can’t help with the playlists, CopyPod will allow you to use your iPod as the ‘external drive’. Much easier IMO. Copy all the tracks onto your new machine, import folder, consolidate, delete originals.
In my iTunes folder there are only two non music files, a database file and an xml file, could you copy these across and replace them on the new machine?
Presumably these contain the playlists.

I’m talking pc, might want to specify your platform for some more useful help from someone who has a clue…
