Saw it. You just saw it.
So, tell us about the movie, then. Was it different from the previous three? Better? Worse?
I was holding off posting anymore than that, most people are going to see it today and tomorrow , and I did not want to post or box spoilers.
That being said, it was a completely different movie from the first 3, this one is more of a transformers for adults, rather than a kid fare movie. Mark was decent, but other than the Bill Gates type , the rest of the human cast were forgettable. Which is what made the first three better in that regard. The character magic worked, balancing out the humans and the bots.
Might be oxymoronish, but most of the metal cast in the movie were cartoonish , both the autobots and the villains. As always the only bright light, was bumblebee, seriously, he was the only character that got an a+ , as far as I was concerned.
Not sure if I was reading too much into a certain scene, but I could swear I saw a fun poke at pacific rim, and the gypsy danger mech.
Pros , Mark Walberg did an okay job for what he had to work with, Shia got tired halfway through the first movie, but at least the other characters made up for it. As previously said, bumblebee.
Cons, movie was covertly preachy, product placement over the top, and no real sense of who I should be cheering for , or sympathizing with.

My company had a party yesterday, so they took us to see this movie for free, and it was ABYSMAL.
Bad dialog, nonsensical plot twists and turns, poorly laid out and ridiculous backstory, mostly cartoonish villains, bizarre tonal shifts, ridiculous product placement.
It’s at 18% on the tomatometer right now, and frankly I don’t see how it’s that high.
My ten year old wanted to see it for his birthday, so I took him and his best friend. They loved it, but I was bored out of my mind. None of it made any sense. The big allure of the Dinobots was a let down, as they show up some two hours in and barely do anything. Every character was a moron and did moron things for moron reasons. They kept the trend of “at least one robot with an offensively stereotyped accent and silly affectations”, so that’s dumb.
The fight scenes were repetitive and dull. The bad guys get blown apart with one shot from a human-sized gun, but the good guys can handle thousands of shots and missiles. It’s basically the same as when you played with toys in your living room as a kid, which is fine for that setting, but boring as a dramatic movie.
And oh god, the product placement! One fight scene ends with an overturned truck of blue Bud Light bottles and has Mark Wahlberg aggressively chugging one of them for no particular reason.
Unless you have kids in the 10-15 age range (and don’t mind them hearing a lot of swearing), save your money. I can’t imagine anyone outside that group enjoying it.
Definitely better than the second and third movies. Probably not as good as the first one (which has an amazing first half and bad second half, this one is a bit more even throughout but never hits any high notes). I disagree completely with MaxTheVool, I have no idea how it’s as low as 18% - I can only assume critics just automatically feel exhaustion when they hear “Transformers.” There’s no reason it should be rated lower than the shitstorm that was the second movie.
I mean, it’s not a great movie. I wouldn’t even say it was good - but I was entertained. It is definitely too long and they should’ve just cut the Dinobots out and saved them for another movie instead of hamfistedly inserting them into the last half hour. And it’s got the ongoing dullness of Michael Bay fight scenes - the humans have the McGuffin and run away down long alleyways or hiding in buildings while everything explodes around them. The Autobots spin around shooting at stuff as the camera pans by, etc.
That said… the humans are much better this time around. Wahlberg and his character’s daughter aren’t great, but they’re better than Shia and Fox. Kelsey Grammar nails his role as the human villain, and Stanley Tucci is also pretty great as a Steve Jobs type. The Autobots actually get a fair amount of dialogue and have personalities! Yeah, they’re still 2-dimensional personalities, but at least they’re there this time. And I thought Lockdown made a pretty good robot villain.
So yeah, it’s still a really dumb Michael Bay movie, but I’d say it should be getting something like 40% and a C rating, not 18%.
I actually liked that scene - it was so over-the-top I figured it had to be poking fun at how ridiculous the product placement was.
(I also enjoyed the large amount of product placement for Chinese products in Chinese characters, which I cannot read. But I am amused that the Chinese audiences will share our pain)
Did John DiMaggio’s cybertronian character slip in any references to his other voice acting roles? Bender in particular?
Okay, I admit it, I want to hear a Transformer spout some Benderisms
“Sounds like it’ll be fun on a bun”
Bender scat singing
Referring to a human character as a Mammal, or Meatbag
Or, the inevitable “Bite my Shiny Metal Ass”…
I saw this movie. I have never seen a previous Xformers movie, but I am aware of its reputation. So, I did not expect much from this movie. It was typical and about what I expected. It was tolerable but I don’t think I’ll watch another Xformers movie. **MaxTheVool **said the dialogue was bad: he was being generous. The dialogue was atrocious, every line. Most of the actors had the acting ability of an amateur doing a YouTube movie. Almost every scene had apolcalyptic action. The action scenes were obnoxious, with every swing of a robotic fist bringing down a building and leaving debris in the air for 5 minutes.
As I said, it was tolerable, but I don’t think I will ever watch another Xformers movie.
I’m easy to please, I was riveted to the screen the whole way through it. Yeah, it was cheesy in several places but I still had fun.
I was disappointed that there wasn’t more Dinobot action, they needed to show up soon and not waste all that CGI fighting Optimus Prime.
