If anyone buys this post hoc rationalization, I have some land I’d like to sell them. The raw tonnage of horseshit elsewhere in the speech means that Trump has no claim at all to the benefit of the doubt.
As a big fan of The West Wing, I think about the work that went into President Bartlet’s SOTUs, with every fact and policy position slaved over. I know that the show was a fantasy even at the time, but it makes me sad.
It’s also worth noting that if we can, in fact, make mice transgender, or even if we can definitively identify transgender behavior in mice, that is 100% worth throwing a few research dollars at.
And he managed to convince a majority of US voters to elect him to the most powerful position in the world. That requires something that’s at least very similar to “charm”.
The fact the media, and liberals generally, spend time on debating the specific words Trump used and whether he’s dumb or evil, rather than talking about the research he just cut and what the effects of that will be plays right into his hands. You get your two minutes hate, and he gets the focus off what he’s actually doing.
The claim that Trump mixed up ‘transgenic’ and ‘transgender’ apparently came from a random Tik Tok video. It isn’t supported by the CNN fact check. There is no reason to believe it other than that it shows Trump in a bad light, and it’s a gift to the right who now get to accuse liberals of lying about Trump (again) and dismiss their opposition, rather than seeing criticisms of his policies.
We can’t make mice transgender because they don’t have a concept of self. But we can induce opposite-sex behaviour by blocking the production of testosterone prenatally in males or giving it even postnatally to females:
I agree it is worth studying, it’s an important part of brain development that we need to understand.
Yes. Ignore it and focus on his actions and their results. This is a good criticism of what he’s doing to US science:
No one can adhere consistently to your chosen method of responding, and criticizing each other for our choices just leads to infighting and disunity.
I despise several democrats personally, as a far leftist, but i strive to refrain from criticizing them. This is an emergency we’re in and criticism is a luxury right now
Autocorrect error. You, not Tory. You are defending a man who is indefensible. I heard Howard Lutnick going to bat for him on Meet the Press today, but he’s PAID to say nice things about Trump.
I watched the whole SOTU and avoided puking somehow at all of his lies. That was a Nuremberg rally, not a SOTU.
There is a good purpose in making your criticism accurate - it makes you look trustworthy to those who don’t already believe you.
If you are at all political, you should always have the goal of making your side look trustworthy to those who don’t already believe you. Because you want to turn them into people who do believe you. Right?
The litter box meme came from simpler times, before the Republican Big Lie Machine got into full swing, when I’m pretty sure it was basically a joke invented by right-wing bigots to try to undermine the whole idea of non-conforming gender identity. Today, the policies of the right, driven by Trump with unrelenting fury, are based on a constant barrage of lies that are meant to be believed and understood literally. None of Trump’s cult think that “transgender mice” is a joke – they think it’s an example of “liberalism” run amok.
This is a great illustration of what MAGA calls "flooding the zone with shit, " putting so much reprehensible nonsense out there that we libtards are fully occupied with, and finally exhausted by, our struggle to understand and refute all of the shit. Much better to give them no credibility at all, on any and all subjects, even if you find yourself agreeing with any one position or talking point . Just reject it all as baseless lies and you’ll be much closer to the truth
I think you are out of the loop. The idea was that kids in school were identifying as cats and demanding litterboxes in the washrooms. Like almost all of the MAGA claims, it was a lie.
