Well, I was re-reading my collection of Transmetropolitan and I noticed some odd things in the last issue. Besides the usual, of course.
Anyway, is Yelena pregnant? I think she is. On Page 8, she looks like she’s got a little belly bulge goin’ on, and her breasts look larger. And while she’s got a cigarette parked behind her ear, she never does light it.
Am I reading too much into that, or is it bloody obvious?
According to Warren Ellis in the waning days of the WEF, Yelena’s belly was a Darick Robertson embellishment not mentioned in the script. IIRC, Ellis left the interpretation of whether she was pregnant up to the reader.
The other open question was whether Spider was fooling the Filthy Assistants about his condition, or whether they knew and were playing along in front of the editor. I seem to recall that Ellis’ intention was that Spider had fooled them, but when one of his reader’s pointed out the other possible interpretation, he said “Either/or.”
Oh, and FWIW: I interpretated the signs you mentioned as signs that she is indeed pregnant. I don’t think I’ve met a Transmet reader yet who didn’t at least raise the question of whether she’s carrying a little Spider.
