How? Expedia list a couple of airports in Vanuatu, but draws a complete blank on how to get to them.
Can anyone help out here?
Googling, there are flights on Fiji Airways from LAX or SFO. I assume you can figure out how to get to them.
Yup–we stopped there on a Fiji flight. Care to share why you’re going? Sounds kinda rough…
Considering it as a vacation.
There are direct flights from Australia - from Brisbane. Air Vanuatu also used to operate flights from Melbourne and Sydney but went broke a couple of months ago.
There are also flights via Nadi, Fiji.
So perhaps look at Portland via SFO or LAX to one of those.
Your flight website may be struggling as the last leg to Port Vila will likely not be a daily flight. Try checking a couple of nearby dates.
Easy to get to LAX from Portland. We are thinking about staying at the Nasama Resort in Port Vila-The ocean view 1 bedroom suite looks perfect, but no final decision yet.
I checked the Expedia site for 10 days straight with no results, but going directly to Fiji Airways worked.
Third-party booking sites like Expedia don’t include every airline (and worldwide, there are many). Southwest Airlines (one of the four biggest domestic carriers), for instance, isn’t available through most of those sites.
The other thing is that you may not save much, if anything, by using such sites. And airlines and hotels may be better able to help you if you booked directly through them, rather than through a reseller.
Google Flights will get you there, depending on the day you choose. But only to Port Vila. The other airports may be served by airlines not covered by Google Flights.
Skyscanner has a bunch more options.
The main airlines that fly from the U.S. to Vanuatu are:
-
Fiji Airways (with connections in Nadi, Fiji)
-
Air New Zealand (with connections in Auckland)
-
Qantas (with connections in Australia)
Or visit by ship out of Sydney. Slower, but picturesque.
If you don’t mind a question, why go so far? Googling, it’s at least twelve hours to get from LAX to Vanuatu, plus the time needed to get to LAX from Portland. Basically a full day. Meanwhile you can go directly to Hawaii from Portland in about six hours. Is it worth the time and trouble?
Planes are one of my favorite places to sleep, and I have always wanted to visit Vanuatu.
Let me remind you that the SDope is a site dedicated to fighting ignorance. Please do not post any information which violates all the known science regarding the laws of physics and human anatomy. ![]()
(And, man, I envy you.)
I have fallen asleep during root canal.
Your next vacation spot!
Have you priced dentistry? A trip to Vanuatu is much cheaper.
