I’ve got 2 weeks of comp time at work that I have to use up, and amazingly they’ve allowed me to use it all at once along with a week of vacation. We Have our son to manage a store we own so we’re taking the entire 3 weeks and going down to the gulf coast. Destin, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, and Biloxi. Maybe a night or two in the Big Easy. Haven’t been down that way in several years.
Anything I should know? Are the beaches all open? Any red tide to worry about. I haven’t found anything online that raises concerns.
I was in the area around a month ago, everything was pretty much open. Now that mask restrictions have been eased I imagine things will be getting back to “normal”–some places may be in recovery mode after the recent flooding.
I was kind of bummed that the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola was closed to the public due to covid restrictions, not sure what the status is now. If you’re a Beatles fan and you’re passing through Dunedin FL, I highly recommend a visit to Penny Lane, a free museum featuring all kinds of Fab Four memorabilia. If you’re a hot sauce aficionado, a side trip to Avery Island to visit the home of Tabasco Sauce is definitely worth a detour.
Thanks. Glad to hear there’s no closures or red tide.
As for that other stuff, been there, done that. We’re just looking to veg on the beach. Haven’t been to the ocean in almost 2 years. We were up in the air on where we were going to go. Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Miami, Sarasota, Savannah, were all in the running. I got a great deal on some condos. And we haven’t been to that area for a while.
Yeah. My brother-in-law lives in Sarasota and said there was some but not as bad as 3 years ago. My Daughter went down to Tampa just yesterday and plans on stopping by her Uncle and maybe Siesta Key. Guess we’ll get a full report from her. But we didn’t want to risk it.
That stuff can completely devastate a planned beach vacation, not to mention the community at large.
