I’m going to Montevideo Uruguay just cause I found a cheap fare and “Uruguay” sounds so exotic. I’m also out of work for the moment and have some time. Anyone traveled or lived there and want to share tips on places to vist, things to buy, what to eat, etc. I’m just going to be there a week, but may rent a car for a drive in the countryside. I am particularly interested in Indian arts and crafts.
Also, how hard is it to get to Buenos Aries? Is there a ferry?

There is a ferry to Buenos Aires. From the sounds of it, it is easily accessable.
Unfortunately, this is all I know about Uruguay.
I’m actually planning an opposite adventure. I’m spending a month in Buenos Aires for a study abroad and taking a side trip to Urugay on a long weekend.

The onlly place I’ve been to in South America is Columbia, so that’s no good. There is a good country guide over at Lonely Planet and their message boards are full of interesting tales.
