OK, I’m taking the family (wife and 3 kids ages 4, 6, and 7) to DisneyWorld. We’re driving because the airfare would have been over $1,000 for the five of us. My strategy is to:
- Drive a lot while the kids are sleeping so the drive isn’t too difficult on them.
- Don’t overdo the driving such that I’m exhausted.
My wife is pregnant and isn’t a great night driver because she gets sleepy, so I will do most of the evening driving. We’ll leave Chicago on Friday, June 17th at around 4 PM and drive eight hours to Nashville. There’s a lot of fun stuff to do in Nashville, and we’ll spend most of Saturday there. Ideally, I’d do the same thing on Saturday night - drive from 4PM to midnight (eight hours) to Valdosta, arrive around midnight, spend the night, and then the next morning drive four hours to Orlando.
Does that sound like a good plan? On the way back, I’d like to leave Orlando on Friday afternoon, travel eight hours to Atlanta and arive there around midnight, wake up, spend the day in Atlanta (but I don’t know what there is to do there for kids), drive another 8 hours to ???, spend the night, and wake up and drive 4 hours to Chicago on Sunday morning. Thoughts? Is there a better idea?
I’d like to make the driving portion an extension of the vacation by doing some fun things, but I’m at a loss…
