If I were to move next year to another country overseas (Let’s say somewhere in asia), should I be concerned about what kind of Laptop I have? I want to get a MacBook Pro, but I want to make sure that it would work properly overseas. Same question only with a cell phone blackberry or iphone.
The laptop will work anywhere. You will need to get an adapter plug for about $5. The phones you must specifically determine if it will work and what kind of contract you will have in other countries.
I am a frequent traveller to India.
My Macbook works extremely well with just a $2.00 adapter plug which you can find in most electrical stores in India. If you are traveling to more than one country, you might consider shelling out about $20.00 for a kit which contains multiple adapters for different countries; I got mine in Staples.
As far as the phone goes, you can buy a SIM card in any cell phone outlet on various long or short term contracts for very reasonable amounts. If you have an unlocked phone this should not be a problem. If your phone is locked, then a new phone can be bought and SIM card added.
I currently use a really good Indian phone purchased for $100CAD and use it both with an Indian SIM card in India and a Canadian SIM card at home which works out much cheaper than a roaming plan.
A further note, if you are going to be in an area with unreliable electrical supply, you might consider taking and extra power pack for the Mac laptop, especially if there is no Mac supplier close.
I once had mine burn out because of wild electrical fluctuations and had to wait three days for one to be couriered to me.
Sorry, did not read the OP quite well enough.
I am not familiar with contracts concerning Blackberry/iPhone, although both are certainly common in India. Cell phone competition is fierce there so I guess deals can be had.
