I have just discovered I have been remiss with the Buttermilk Pie recipe. I fully expect gt to show up at my kitchen door any minute and beat me over the haid.
To make amends…
BUTTERMILK PIE
2 cups sugar (yep it is a bunch of sugar but this is dessert people!)
1 stick butter, room temperature (and I mean butter! none of that margarine stuff! don’t even consider margarine! I mean it! put that margarine back in the fridge and get out the butter!)
4 tablespoons flour
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup buttermilk (oh quit gettin’ all icked out! buttemilk is ok for cookin’.)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell (if you are of a mind to make a pie crust knock yerself out. me, I thank Pillsbury etal daily for ready made pie crusts.)
In large bowl cream together sugar, butter and flour. (use your mixer or your hands. just wash those hands before and after ok? well, if you want drippy pie batter hands aftewards fine by me as long as those hands were washed before.)
Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.
Stir it all up real good. (again, use the mixer, use your hands. i won’t judge.)
Pour into unbaked pie shell. (duh!)
Bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. (actually I use a toothpick, but if a knife is handy, go for it!)
Of course you should preheat your oven before mixin’ everything up, but then again y’all already know to do that, right?
The pie sounds great, Swampy. We had pancakes for breakfast, too - but with sausage.
Yay for passing the test, Bobbio!
I hope your neck feels better today, Rosie.
I’m bummed that we can’t go to the dog park today. All week long we have had gorgeous warm weather. Today a stupid front blows in and it’s 45° and windy. Boo.
Got some great news yesterday. ReboSon has a job! He starts Monday. He came over to eat gumbo last night, and I saw his hand. It’s all healed up except for one small scab. Amazing how fast a young body can heal! Three weeks. He’s using a squeezie ball to get the strength back.
Gotta start laundry and clean up the kitchen. Have a good day, Mumpers!
Must everything be complicated? We were all set to move to a bigger and hopefully better spot at the flea market. Now the people whose spot we were taking have decided not to take the new spot that they were moving to. The spot they were going to would be PERFECT for us. However, because of what we sell we might be too close to other vendors who sell similar things. I suppose it will all work out in the end but there are too many crappy things going on right now and I’m not sure how much more character building I can stand.
Peter’s finally eating. I mixed up some turkey and rice so hopefully that’ll settle his stomach. He woke me up at 5:30 this morning yakking on the carpet and up until a few minutes ago he didn’t show any interest in food. He’s too skinny to not eat.
I really need to take him to the vet. His gums are probably infected again. It is time to pull some teeth.
Whew. I just spent about 5 hours in my studio, cleaning. It hardly looks like I accomplished anything. What a mess, and I figure at least 4 or 5 more hours tomorrow. Oh, and all of my glazes and underglazes dried out. I’ve put hot water into all of the jars, and I’ll do the best I can to reconstituted it all. I hope it works - there’s about $150 worth.
But I’ve quit for the day. I’m going to shower and get dressed for my slightly delayed b-day dinner. We’re going to Famous Dave’s. It’s not my first choice, but everyone likes it and the kids can afford it.
Congrats on passing the test, Vundie! Too bad the mini-Mumperfest had to be cancelled though… I was looking forward to photos.
Also, congrats on Reboson’s new job and having one less thing for his mom to worry about.
Sorry about the market madness, Pie. It’ll all sort itself out eventually, though, as frustrating as it is right now.
Last, but not least, some get-well scritches for Petercat. Infected gums and tooth yanking sounds horribly unpleasant, but it’s good to hear that he’s been coaxed into eating something in the meantime. {{Spaz and Petercat}}
The Boy is at work, so I’m being all housewifey today. So far, I’ve emptied the dishwasher, tidied the kitchen, swept the floors, gone to the grocery store to pick up some edibles, and done a general tidy-up of the living/dining room. Next up: laundry.
I also have a batch of Jumbo Banana PB Chocolate Chip muffins in the oven, and they’re smelling pretty freakin’ awesome at the moment. Will post the recipe if they taste as good as they smell (it’s my first time trying this one out, so there’s still a chance it might be a dud despite the wonderful smell).
I am loose ends today and don’t like it. I can’t seem to settle into anything–don’t want to read, surf the Net or clean. Too cold to go out and too poor to go out somewhere…
What to do? I thought about baking, but even that is kinda meh.
Methinks I might have cabin fever.
Congrats on passing the test, Vunder! Everyone else, boo, awww, yay etc.
Off to try to find something to do.
Got my fingers crossed for optimal glaze reconsititution, FCM. That’s a bit of $$. Speaking of, hopefully your daughter got to proctor today for the big bucks.
Congrats Bobbio on PASSING and to ReboSon for the NEW JOB! Most excellent news, yessss.
Kudos to everyone having a productive day. So far there’s been zero accomplished here today and it’s starting to bug. In fact, I’m turning off the 'puter right after this. Dishes and vacuuming must be done. Slaaaaacker! Did I say that out loud?
Sending you a virtual massage, Rosie. Hope your neck feels better soon.
**
Pie**, I hope your flea market situation works itself out pronto. It seems it can’t be easy, can it?
Muffins turned out okay, but a little bit too sweet for my liking. I think I’ll try again, but with semi-sweet choco chips instead of milk choco, roughly half the sugar, unsweetened natural PB instead of the processed stuff, and some wheat germ for texture. I’ll post the recipe once I’ve tweaked it.
This batch is still edible, though, so on the bright side I now have some portable breakfasts to take to work (which is good, because it’ll stop me from eating giant lemon danishes from the cafeteria as I’ve gotten into the habit of doing)
Now I’ve got a roast beast i the oven, which I’ll serve up with some homemade gravy, crash hot potatoes and baby carrots. Nom nom nom. I think I’m making up for eating so badly over the last week.
Unfortunately, they didn’t need her, so she’ll get the consolation prize for showing up. However, she put the first coat of paint on her microwave shelf, installed the chimney cap on the second flue, helped her dad take the dodger off the boat (we’re ordering a new one) and cleaned her apartment.
We just got back from supper and running a few errands. We returned one of the two books **FCD **got me - it was really more of a collector’s guide than a book on ceramics. He thought I might want to use it to get ideas, but honestly, most of what I saw in the book was ugly. However, the other book he got me is great!
I’m in bathrobe mode. Gonna have some chocolate cake. Or better yet, some wine. Yeah, that’s the ticket…
MOOOOOOM no need to have to decide which. Ya gotta wash down the cake, so have the wine too!
Today has been f-aaaaaa-bu-lous-ly sluglike. Dindin was leftover pepper steak and we watched two movies. In a bit Ima go join ol’ y’all know who on the bed and stare at some Britcoms on public teevee. Oh and we had a nappypoo, of course.
Le sigh… tomorrow I go back to work. Oh well, it’s pretty much a mellow first workday of the week so there’s that.
Plus, I have the MMP all written up. The plan is to post it tomorrow night before goin’ beddy bye.
No sliding headfirst down a ladder like an action movie?
I was trying to read myself to sleep but my choice of reading matter just angried up my blood. The Ladies of Missalonghi, if you must know or “Colleen McCullough rips off L.M. Montgomery.” I tossed it across the room with great force.
I guess I’ll watch TV for a while to de-angrify. Stupid ham-handed plagiarists.
Bear discovered Kitty Krunchies today… When, when, WHEN can we get a barfy smiley around this place? He’s no longer allowed to lick my face or hands. Urp. It’s fairly natural–both labs and huskies are food obsessed breeds and he’s very energetic, uses up a lot of calories, it was probably inevitable, but nonetheless… hjork :smack:
Well, Himself finally got two project computers out the door in the last couple days so maybe, just MAYBE A) we’ll be able to spend a little time together and B) he won’t be quite so much of a raving d-bag quite so often. I think he needs to spend some quality time doing some strenuous physical labor, he’s getting too stressed out and he needs to blow off some steam. I’m going to recommend borrowing the nifty tiny chainsaw on a stick the neighbor has and cutting back the cherry trees significantly. They really need it and if we do we might actually get some fruit off the damned things, finally.
Next days off we’re gonna tackle the library, which has been doing duty as a junk room. It’s totally out of hand needs to be fixed. I think I might build a shelf unit for it just to make some more room–there’s way too many danged books in there!
Thanks, Doggio, I need all the help my fat arse can get!

Happy Birthday McUNE !!! ……[/color]……*Home again. Dinner is nuked corn on the cob, baked N.O.T. fries, and discount Kroger deli chicken. With beer as appetizer, dessert, and beverage.
{{{{Spaz}}}} : skritches Petercat :
Dotty , you get a day off when HRH is grown with her own kid. Sorry.
Yay for an employed Reboson!!
Sorry about the spot, Pie.
Smartie, having your dog sneeze in your face while you are yawning is much worse.
Speaking of missing Mumpers, where’s BooFae gotten to? Hope she isn’t doing 25 to life for making 'im indoors into 'im wrapped in a tarp and buried under the new shed.
Gah. There’s been a lot happening. I can’t possibly respond to it all. Appropriate hugs, boos, happy birthdays, and scritches all around.
Highlight (or lowlight?) of my day: I left my lights on this morning and had to get security to come jump my car so I could get home. I could just scream. I’ve never done that before! But I didn’t have to pay anything, and I got home only about fifteen minutes later than I wanted to. Still…arrgh!
