A Birthday to Remember… The MMP!

TVMan and I took a trip to upstate New York to pick up some antique televisions and also to celebrate my birthday this weekend! We started out at the Sunshine Radio Museum in Sodus, New York. We looked at some old radios and various oldpartsfortvsand radios that they had just lying around. TVMan had wanted to make the trip in order to pick up some Zenith round tube television sets. This was the same model tv that his grandparents had in their living room when he was a little boy. The museum had three of them that we took home. We also picked up a couple Wabbulators (don’t ask… I don’t know) and twopicture tubes. One of the tubes was brand new in the box and the other one was used. Both tubes were 21 inches so you can imagine how big the boxes were that they came in.

Now the fun begins! Thank heavens there was a nice man named Haroldto help load everything in the truck. But as you can seeTVMan was perplexed at how we were going tofit it all in! So, after much lifting, packing, and Wobbulating, we were off once again. Our next stop was Amherst, NY which is about 30 minutes South of Niagara Falls. We checked into our hotel (which was very nice) and then headed for the Falls. As I had previously complained, we didn’t have passports so we couldn’t head into [URL=“http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s103/purplkid/IMG00163.jpg”]Canada. So, we took the obligatory pictures and headed back to our hotel for the night.

The next morning, my birthday, we were up early and left for home by 7:30. Not too long after we got on I-90 the main tarp loosened and we were forced to pull over. Did I mention that it was pouring down the rain? Did I mention that semis were zooming past us mere inches away? Did I mention that it was my birthday? Well, that temporary repair lasted about two miles and we ended up at an actual rest area.

Somewhere in there we noticed that some of our bungee cords had snapped in half. To make a long story longer, we stopped at two different places and bought more cords and straps. In the end, though, we decided that taking the ‘scenic route’ which would take an hour longer but would be safer than the high speeds on the interstate. This was my brilliant idea. This might have been a wonderful plan if the scenic route hadn’t passed through the Allegheny National Forest, twists and turns, up the hills, down the hills, etc. all in the on again off again rain. We ended up stopping every hour and a half or so to make sure that everything was still secure. Just for fun there were high wins for about the last 1 1/2 hours. So a 3 ½ hour trip ended up taking about 7 hours. We were both glad to be back home.

TVMan’s assistant came over to unload the truck and then left for a little bit. When he came back, it turns out he was bringing something that he had been holding onto for TVMan. It was my birthdaysurprise!!! It’s a 1956 Hotpoint portable tv and it’s pink and I love it!!! I was totally surprised and it was an awesome birthday gift. ** TVMan** did a very good job!

All in all, I’d say we had a fun trip and hopefully we’ll be able to head out again soon. Hopefully it will be drier next time.
So, that’s my most memorable birthday, what’s yours?
Also, since it’s still Sunday, and Father’s Day, I’d like to wish a Happy Father’s Day to TVMan and all the other dads out there!

I went to New Orleans for my birthday. Love the city, hate the weather. After a week and a half of 95º to 99º heat, it’s nice to be back in the 60s.

I hung out with friends, took a couple of side trips to Mississippi, telecommuted a little in my slack time. Checkpoint Charlie’s, Clover Grill, Frank’s Restaurant, Ralph & Kacoo’s, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, Hi Ho Lounge, Five Happiness, 13, Fiorello’s, lunch with Ivorybill at Herbsaint. Horror DVDs. Helped fix a van. Hung out with friends.

Hey, Pie! I grew up in Amherst, NY! My old stomping grounds. A Western, NY bday. What could be better???

That’s awesome, Soapy!

There’s actually a little bit more to my story, but I’m tired and have a headache, so I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Hi Pie! Glad you had a great birthday. Hi other people who are awake!

Yesterday we went to this nature park nearby, courtesy of a local political party (sorry, I don’t think the page has an English version, go to “el parque” for pics). You paid a 5€ fee (instead of the usual 22€ for a grownup and 15 for a kid) and it got discounted off your meal. Mom, Lilbro and me hadn’t been yet; Middlebro et co had but two years ago and the fee certainly wasn’t something to sneer at. Lilbro didn’t come due to a previous appointment. A great day was had by all, I’m red in those places where I showed skin (I can see where my watch was), I took pics of the Kidlette and of the huge, huge prey birds during the prey birds exhibition. The place is pretty cool in general, but the prey birds exhibition is the can’t miss item. Usually those have the birds sitting on the floor or on perches, perhaps perched upon their masters’ arms; here the smallest ones were brought in by the falconeers but the largest ones were let fly from the top of the small mountain overlooking the hawking area. They had a few mammals too.

The Kidlette is 9 months old today. “Nine inside, nine outside…” Her brother moved a lot more: having a kid who stays still while you change her nappy is a definite plus. She recognizes songs (Malagueña is a favorite) and claps when, or even before, people around her clap to clap-worthy things. The Kidlet was scared of the biggest birds (the eagle and the condor were both taller than he is), the Kidlette was trying to open her eyes even bigger.

Hi everybody.

Sorry I missed your b-day last week, Pie!

And for being generally MIA all last week… It was a crazy week at work, as well as at home (end-of-school-year… stuff for all the kids, including hauling all of Special Teen’s dorm room home from J’lem.)

I’ll try to be around a bit more this week.

**Nava **-- I once attended a Falconry show (with family and kids) at a castle we visited in Belgium. It was impressive. Two of the kids lapped it up, #3 was a bit scared but still enjoyed it.

Happy Belated Birthday Pie!

Other than that, as lunch said, life around here has been kind of intense. I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Monday.

All other appropriate gestures as applicable, blessings children, and be careful out there.

nothing intense here - just collapsing under the weather, for which we can officially Blame Canada! According to the weather service because of a high pressure system over southern Canada, the Jet Stream is sitting just south of LI which is making for a very wet, miserable June (the radio station even played “Blame Canada” underneath the report)

Udderandat, I’m well, just cranky.

Nice to see you both, SO and kai.

Up and at 'em! Happy Monday, everyone!

GT

Blurf.

That is all. Carry on.

Good morning, afternoon and everything in between!

Hi SO! Hi Kai! Blurf, vBob!

lalalalala

Blurf. Couldn’t sleep muc.

Am off to the doc this morning again to doublecheck that the ear is doing fine; it seems to be, but I want official word on that. Gah.

It’s not Firday yet, is it?

Bwuh? Oh. My caffeine is starting to take hold…

Cute TV, Pie! And Happy Belated Bday!

Cool TV! I’m glad you had a good time, even if it was a bit of a PITA with the rain and stuff. It will always be memorable, though! I have to say, you are looking GGGGrrrrrreeeaaattttt!!! I can see the weight loss. You are one hot lady!

Monday blahs here. Blah. Blah blah blah, I say!

C’mon Firday - vacation starts then!

Happy Belated Birfday, Pie!!!

My God is it HAWT here! We had 98〫on our thermometer at the house both Saturday and Sunday with the heat index well into the triple digits. Not a good time for Mr. Anachi to have the Yard-o-the-Month sign sitting out front.

nooney, what’s the take on the happenings in Iran in your neck of the woods?

Good news about the ear, bunny.

Hi haze, kai, Johnny LA!

Billing hell today. How appropriate.

Tupug

Try to keep up.

I’m full of energy today. That can’t be good for the rest of you.

PieBabe, did that toe fall off yet?

I dropped a screen door on my left toe years ago. Before it was all over, I was hoping it would fall off. I had to have the nail drilled to release a blood pocket, and about a year later, have the nail removed completely and part of it killed because the outside edge became severely ingrown.

It’s fine now, but grows crooked and looks funny.

Who put the speed in your Wheaties? :dubious:

Looks like a mostly great time(apart from the tarp), Pie. Here is my TV(which is not quite a s old as yours) I am rather blurf free today.

Hi Haze!

Hey kai! Hope things get less intense.

Soapy, you got energy? Good, you can babysit Gordie while I manclean the apartment today. He’s beheaded two toys already this morning.
