Clearly, not you!
Happy belated Birthday Pie!!
I finally got good sleep last night (the hot weather combined with back pain has been keeping me awake) so I’m feeling more human this morning… or was until discovering that a Very Important Database hasn’t been updated. So I can’t do anything yet and probably won’t be able to start Very Importantly Weekly Task until tomorrow, which means I’ll very likely be here very late tomorrow night. Blurf. This sucks. I’m going to go sit in the corner and be grumpy.
Good morning all! Thanks for the television pictorial, CutiePie and the trip to NY and Niagara Falls (slowly I turn … step by step, inch by inch …!). That tv from TVMan is cute, btw.
Woo hoo - it’s kaiwik! Hope all is going well on Kodiak and with you. And good to see that the SpecialOne is still around, even if he’s busier than a one-armed paper hanger! LOL When was the last time you heard that one?
I’m only partially caffeinated, have mercy on me! I’m also at work and have done the time cards for the past two weeks … it’s a wonder I’m not mixing myself a martini (j/k). Ah well, hope everyone has an enjoyable day. Four more days until FIRDAY.
Don’t think I didn’t see you there, Haze; I just almost forgot that I did.
PIE!!!
I did a Burfday at the other place, but you get one here too.
Happy!!!
It’s so hot and muggy here, I am in HEAVEN. I was born for this weather, I swear I shoulda been a lizard. When I was younger and ran track, or played baseball, I had the best days in weather like this when the others around me were dying. I could go lie on a hot rock in the sun right now.
But no, here I am cooped in a tiny office.
Muggy, hot weather sucks.
You can have it. Bleah.
Happy belated burfday, Pie! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun, and celebrated right proper.
The Boy and I celebrated my birthday this weekend as well - he took me out for a fancy-shmancy dinner at Colborne Lane, which is run by one of my favouritest chefs in Toronto. The meal was spectacular, to say the least… gorgeous food, beautiful wines, impeccable service.
I’ve already told The Boy that I promise not to kvetch about getting older, so long as he keeps treating me to gorgeous dinners each year to distract me.
This LOLcat should be the Patron Saint of the MMP.
I saw that one this morning, doggio. I like how you think.
I saw that one and laughed really hard. You amuse me doggio.
My birthday’s on Friday. My sister’s coming to sleep here for a few days on Friday. I care about the latter more.
Also, I’ve already spent $120 on a cappella CDs in the past few weeks, but I have my eye on this, and all orders over $50 are free Priority Mail shipping… Argh! Must stop spending money, but want good music!
Old TVs and radios are cool. Pretty amazing to find someone with a stash of picture tubes still new in the box.
Right now, the small project is to rehab a victrola. Specifically, a Victor Victrola VV-X, if that means anything to anyone. Think the poor thing spent much of its life around smokers as the metalwork is all yellowish. (ick!) but, it does play records. Amazing how loud it can play, considering that it’s just a needle being wiggled at the end of a long array of elbows, joints, tubes and bends.
Now for the bad news. Where to start?
Some friends had to put their dog down as it was dying of liver failure. That’s bad enough, but the headline news is
WE GIVE UP
The California economy is slowly imploding, and jobs just don’t exist. We met one person last week who finally found a minimum-wage position at the local UHaul shop after looking for five months. Would-be employers are demanding bachelor degrees for receptionists and secretaries, and paying crap wages. The recruiting and placement agencies are themselves on the brink of going out of business because they have no customers looking to fill vacancies. A couple of the ones that DH has been working with have had severe staff cuts to stay alive.
So, we’re packing up our stuff and plan to move east in December. We’re out of money, and the bank has been less than helpful in working out a loan modification. We’re upside-down by about $200,000, so even a “short sale” is unlikely. There’s a REO (bank owned house) down on the corner that’s been on the market for six months. Another house in the neighborhood was on the market for seven months before it sold last month.
So, our plans are to pack up our stuff, head east and mail the keys to the bank. They’re going to get the house one way or another. For the short term, we’ll be living with family.
Our immediate neighbors told us that we’re the best thing to happen to the immediate area in however many years, and that we’re the only thing that’s kept them from moving away. Now they’re looking at moving, but found that they’re upside-down by about $25,000 thanks to the rotten economy and housing market.
Sorry things are so tough, gotti. {{hugs}}
Still no database here and probably 2 hours to go. Woo. I took an hour-and-a-half lunch. I think I should have stayed out longer.
Hey, **Kai **and **Haze **both on page 1 of the MMP!! The End Days are nigh!!
(Look who’s talking… :o)
**Ivory **-- has the Speed worn off yet?
{{{Gotti}}} – that sucks Does said family live in a New England state or in some other state that will recognize your marriage? At least that could be a minor silver lining.
**Taxi **-- tell me about waiting for other people to take their own sweet time finishing their step of a job that you just have to do NOW!!!
Whoever asked me about Iran – mostly we’re waiting and seeing. Whatever happens, though, I figure Iran will not be the same after this round of unrest – and the world (outside of Israel and the US, that is) will be looking at it with a different, more skeptical, eye, too
Howdy Y’all! Home after puttin’ in my five and a half hours of overtime today. I did not stay over even one second. I ran out the door.
CutiePie cool teevee! Glad you had a good time even with all the fun of gettin’ back home. You did get a good MMP out of it and as we all know, that’s the most important thing.
doggio that lolcat made me laugh out loud. Hee!
gotti that sucks. Here’s hopin’ things turn around for y’all soon.
Look! It’s kai!
Everybody else, yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins, how you doin’s. Distribute as needed.
{{gotti}} That must have been a tough, tough decision to make. It sounds like it’s the right one, though, and that things can only get better from there.
I’m having a bit of a rough Monday. I got the news that one of my work friends passed away on the weekend - we were an inseparable duo on my last project, since we started the same day and were assigned to the same tasks. I used to call him my Work Husband, because we spent so much damned time together that we started finishing each other’s sentences and affectionately picking on each other. We moved to different areas of the company after the project wrapped a year ago, but we still exchanged the occasional email to see how things were going.
I just wish I’d been a little more diligent about staying in touch and made a point of getting together more often, but how can you know in advance that a perfectly healthy 33-year old man will suddenly drop dead? The saddest part of all is how awful this must be for his little boy, who can’t be more than four years old.
On the bright side, one of my other work friends just dropped by with gorgeous flowers to wish me a happy birthday. She didn’t even know about the bad news… but that just made my day.
Neat pics, Pie!! Very cool b-day!
Kai!! Don’t be a stranger!!
**BusDude **- I talked to my sis yesterday - she said very nice things about you and your fambly.
**Muppet **- how sad.
One down, 4 to go before I’m on vacation - YAY! And about 30 minutes to go before we run to the vet. What an exciting evening… I can has Firday??
{{{Muppet}}}
I didn’t catch up over the weekend… how’d the big iPhone release go, swampy? Was that why you had to work so much overtime?
I finally got my up-to-date database… at 3:30 when it’s supposed to be ready at 8 a.m. (Well, it’s supposed to be done on Sunday, but the point is to have it ready for us when we come in on Monday morning.) Fortunately, I wasn’t waiting on someone else, Special1… it just takes that long for all the processes to run during the week. Fun time sitting here waiting. I think I’m going to try to work from home after 5 tonight. I just can’t sit here and stare at this same computer screen any more.
:D:D:D
Why the big smiles you ask? Well, I’ll tell ya! Supper tonight shall be sliced ribeye steak on a big ol’ sallit. The steaks are grilled (two small ones) and restin’, ready to be sliced up. I made the sallit with all the usual suspects plus… :D:D:D 'maters, bell peppers and banana peppers grown by my own two paws! :D:D:D I’m proud of me. Soon I shall also have me some more squashes too!
{{{Muppet}}} I’m so sorry about your work friend. It’s especially tough when they go so young.
taxi overtime work today was just to catch up on some stuff that got put to the side last week due to the big iPhone hoopla. I probably could have not gone in and still get everything caught up but I decided to go hang out for a while anyways. At least all that stuff is caught up and I can move onto bigger and better things, meaning new stuff. Such is work.
Like pugy said earlier, it’s HAWT outside! I broke a sweat gatherin’ in the crops even.
Carpet and bathroom are clean, I need to go Krogering before dinner and movies.
Congrats on the green thumb, swampy.
Sorry about your co-worker, Muppet.
gotti, sorry you have to move.
I told ol’ y’all knowwho he was eating the fruits of my labor. He asked me if I laid down in the yard and given birth to those tomatoes and peppers. Any wonder I keep him around?
