Treasure in the trashcan or You Brits have been holding out

My friend took home a box of CDs she found atop a trash can. On of these CDs is called Best of British and it’s chock full of surprises. There’s The Shadow’s Apache. I’ve only heard the hip hop version and didn’t even know there was a “way of the Western” type version. Cool. Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells is on it right alongside 10cc’s I’m Not In Love. And my new personal favorite, Tom Jones (along with the Stereophonics) singing Mama Told Me Not to Come.

What else have ya’ll got over there that you’ve been hiding? And why are ya’ll stashing it in the garbage over here?

Well, even if I had a complete list of all the popular music released in the UK in the last 45 years, it might take a while to key in…

A list of UK popsters is not what I was thinking of exactly. See, we here in the US send out our pop – good and bad-- for all the world to loathe. Sure the UK offered us Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls but they in no way make up for Britney and Christina and the Backstreet Boys and Nsync and Jayz and so on and so on.

T’pau and Atomic Kitten could have put a small dent in this trade deficit.

The Fighting Cocks is another they could send over.

I’m glad to see it was music you were referring to & not the leftovers - I happen to be in London even as I type this (my first visit here), and believe me, you don’t want any part of the “English Breakfast”. Bleech!

As to Tom Jones, Live in Las Vegas is also a treat!

However this UK keyboard is fubar.
