I’d support a campaign to make people more aware of the health and environment risks in order to decrease meat consumption, but the anti-smoking campaigns have had more of a goal to try to stop smoking altogether, and that’s what her campaign sounds like. She doesn’t sound like someone like Michelle Obama who is just trying to get people to eat healthier, or organizations that encourage Meatless Mondays to decrease meat consumption, she’s a vegan who sounds like she wants everyone to become vegan. I can understand why people are upset.
Also an anti-meat campaign is just a bad idea because it would backfire like just the proposal has done. I would think that you might be able to encourage people to eat less meat with the right strategies, but if you sound like you are against eating any meat it will just make people hug their hamburgers and bacon tighter.
Yes. How they tackled smoking was not just making people aware of the health risks, but through a sustained campaign of steadily making smoking more and more publicly unacceptable, and that’s what sounds like is going on here, at least in this woman’s mind.
Of course, I’d rather deal with someone’s second-hand smoke than their second-hand meat, through no matter what orifice. :barf:
One should also follow the money. I once went to listen to a vegetarian talk and low and behold, she worked for a vegetarian magazine and was trying to sell vegetarian cookbooks.
Oh, more of the usual about how “carnivores” destroy the environment and how all the worlds problems would be solved if everyone was vegetarian and how being a vegetarian made a person closer to nature and pure and their shit didnt stink and all that.
But mostly they should subscribe to her magazine and buy her cookbook.
Vegans, meat eaters or smokers. whichever. they’ll all need a lengthy pounding with a mallet to tenderize the meat.
Also, I suspect that shredding and mixing together the meat of all three would be more palatable.
Alternatly, vegans should be cooked an a smoker, meat eaters ahould be stir-fried, and vegans should be drenched in barbecue sause but otherwise served raw.
