Last month I took some photos of what I thought were very unusual flowers that a group of trees were showing.
Since then I have been using a variety of sources to try to identify the trees and having no success.
I now ask the Teeming Millions. Hopefully views of the flowers and leaves will be sufficient; I didn’t get any photos of the trunks.
The photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffwc00/sets/72157622119709493/
My recollection is the trunks were roughly 7 to 8 feet tall. Individual branches went much higher.
Missed the edit window - After further thought, I think the trunks were more like 6 to 7 feet tall.
The tree seems to be something I’ve seen pictures of. I can’t recall what. I have to leave this to somebody that sees these growing in the landscape all the time.
After running some more searches, I think I’ve found the answer. I believe they are African Tulip trees.

I agree. They are commonly planted here in Panama.
Thanks for the verification, Colibri. Since my question is answered, I will send a request for this thread to be closed.
