Trent Lott

Look at your link once more December. Brink Lindsay never said what you claim he said. What he did say is

No, elucidator, you didn’t just say that Buchanan is ‘extreme right’. You passed him off as representative of what the extreme right thinks. Given that he seems to be the ONLY member of the ‘extreme right’ who thinks this way, that’s a little disingenuous, no?

Colour me confused, Sam.

elucidator quoted from Pat Buchanan and then commented:

You then responded:

And then you list William F. Buckley, Jonah Goldberg, Charles Krauthammer, Thomas Sowell and Mona Charon as examples of conservatives who are calling for Lott’s resignation.

So are you saying that Republicans generally are the “extreme right” and that these guys are extremists? I wouldn’t have thought so - I’d have called them conservatives, but not extreme right, unlike Buchanan. Frankly, I think you and elucidator are saying the same thing.

But Buchanan in whatever category you like. The fact is, the right wing in general, from moderate to extreme, was apalled by what Lott said, and most wanted him gone. A handful of them are opportunists who wanted Lott gone simply because he is a liability to the Republicans.

To write a message quoting Buchanan and then attribute his attitude to “the extreme right” is about as honest as quoting the nuttiest thing Al Sharpton said, and then saying, “even the most liberal Democrats are disagreeing.”

Ah, but Sammy, the operative word is “extreme”, is it not? And you yourself identified Mr. Buchanan as being too extremely right for the Republicans. I didn’t say “Republican”, you did. And, I do believe, the much admired Ms. Coulter has produced some drivel on the subject. Outside of those two, what other “exteme right” columnists and pundits do you know about? And in what way are they at variance with these opinions?

That petard you are hoist upon is your own. I am merely an innocent stander-by. True, I find it chucklesome. But I had nothing to do with it.
