That phish.net article should tell you far more than you could ever want to know. In brief, Paul Languedoc is Phish’s soundman. (He’s also doing the sound for Trey’s solo tour.) He is also an accomplished builder of guitars, and he built the ones Trey has used for most of their career. Mike does have a Languedoc bass, but I don’t think he uses it as his main one.

I don’t know if anyone else has one. I’ve seen 'em from as close as the fifth row, and they are beautiful. The hollow body gives it unreal sustain–check out the extended notes on “You Enjoy Myself” and “The Squirming Coil”. (Insert Nigel Tufnel Quote Here)

If there’s a Great Moment in Languedoc History, it would have to be when Neil Young joined the band onstage at Farm Aid, taking Trey’s spare guitar. The hollow body also gives this guitar all the feedback you could ever want, so putting it in the hands of Neil Young was like giving the pyromaniac the Zippo.

Apparently Trey had a new guitar on the Oysterhead tour–all I know is that it was called the Matterhorn, it had antlers, and he didn’t use it that often. I’m not sure if Paul built it or not.

Since this is about music, I’ll move the thread over to Cafe Society.

Don’t know much about this guitar, but he played it when I saw O’head this year. Sounded nifty.
