Trick or treaters?

I live in a small coastal village in Maine where I think it’s safe from Anthrax or attack, but this Halloween night instead of the usual 200+ trick or treaters, I had only about 25, and most of them older kids. I was really disappointed because I really enjoy seeing the little ones in their costumes. I was surprised that the families here kept their children from trick or treating, really surprised. Did anyone else, who usually has a lot of kids, find that there weren’t very many? I know some towns don’t do trick or treating anymore, but usually in larger cities.

We were low this year, about a half or a third of what we usually do. However, we had a lot of big groups of little kids going around with five or six parents, so we know people are keeping the tradition alive in spite of everything.

We live just outside NYC and trick or treat traffic was down significantly. What was most interesting is that typically, kids from less-well-off neighborhoods in the Bronx will come up into our suburbs and go trick-or-treating (it can be kind of frustrating - some of these kids are well over 15 or so, so there’s just a bunch of teenagers grabbing candy - kinds robs the evening of charm…). Anyway, we got NONE of those types of trick or treaters…

Off to IMHO.
