Trip report - Vancouver in August

We thought, since we asked for recommendations in Vancouver, we would submit this little snippet of our trip.

It was amazing…spent three nights in Vancouver, Howard Johnson’s in the entertainment district. That was very interesting. We took the Big Bus Tour. What a great service! They take you around to the highlights and you get on and off whenever you see something interesting.

Then we took the bus to Nanaimo, spent a night there then took a car rental to Tofino. What a great ride: beautiful scenery, views you just can’t top. But, holy, is Tofino ever expensive! It’s beautiful but expensive! We stayed at the Whalers on the Beach hostel which was terrific.

Would highly recommend Jamies Whaling Station. The ride out was rough but, for the first time on the ocean, amazing. The whales - well, I just can’t describe the feeling you get watching them.

Then back to Vancouver for a night then back to Toronto.

Places I would recommend: The Big Bus Tour; Jamies Whaling Station; The Lighthouse Restaurant in Nanaimo; and Whalers on the Beach Hostel. The seawall at Stanley Park is also excellent, as well as the ride, via Seabus, to Lonsdale Quay.

Did you stop at Cathedral Grove to see the old growth forest on the way out to Tofino?

And yup, Tofino is REALLY expensive in August!

Yes, we did. We also stopped on the side of the road where there was a really powerful river and falls…it’s was truly spectacular.

If we had the time, that drive would have taken us days…all the little stops you can make.
