We have finally booked our summer vacation - Vancouver in August. We are going to Tofino to whale watch - the part I’m most excited about! Then we are staying on Bowen Island…it’s going to be so great!
It is the first summer vacation hubby has ever taken and he’s never seen the west coast so it should be great to see it again through his eyes!
Anyone else got fabulous summer vacation plans?
I plan to spend July and August listening to my fiancée complain bitterly that I can’t take vacation during July and August because we are expanding/renovating our office and upgrading the network during that period.
It’s gonna be great! Woot! Vancouver in August! (Actually, I’m planning a weekend trip to the Island to get a bit of whale watching in - she’s never been and I’m sure it will blow her away.)
…when that’s out of the way, we’re going to spend a couple weeks in Québec City. September.
I may spend a week in Toronto. <shudder>
Yeesh, every damn summer as a kid I went to Toronto, squished into front seat of the station wagon between my mum and dad, with my three siblings taking up the back seat. I once calculated I’d spent a year of my life on vacation in Toronto, and never saw a goddamn thing.
But really, my summer will be spent as a new homeowner, with all that entails.
I feel obliged to point out that if you’re going to Tofino, and then spending time on Bowen Island, you are NOT going to Vancouver. You may be flying into and out of Vancouver, but you’re actually going to Vancouver Island / the Gulf Islands. I approve heartily.
About whale watching: Before you pay, ask the booking person where the whales are that day and how long it will take the zodiac to get out there.
When I went, we spent 90 minutes riding out to the site, watched whales for literally 10 minutes, and then rode 90 minutes back to base. Not exactly what I had in mind. Three hours on a zodiac is actually not very fun. They are pretty violent and the ride can be surprisingly cold, even in summer. If it is raining or the weather looks crappy, don’t even think about it, you will be miserable.
Of course, you could take one of the larger, covered boats that offer shelter and do everything at a more leisurely pace…
