In the Roman Catholic Church, the chancellor of a diocese is responsible for keeping the records of the diocese and is normally a priest. In the Anglican communion, the chancellor of a diocese is the legal advisor to the bishop, and is normally a lawyer.

In Australian universities the *Chancellor *is the ceremonial head of the university. It is the Vice-Chancellor who actually runs the university. Both have their offices in the *Chancellery *building.

The word “university” is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means “community of teachers and scholars.”

The Latin verb ‘to teach’ is *docere *(past participle doctus: ‘learned’ or ‘skilled’), from which the English word ‘doctor’ is derived.

The study of the history and origin of words, and changes in their form and meaning over time, is known as etymology.

The Juris Doctor (J.D.) is a professional doctorate and first professional graduate degree in law. “Juris Doctor” literally means “Teacher of Law”, while the Latin for “Doctor of Jurisprudence”—Jurisprudentiae Doctor—literally means “Teacher of Legal Knowledge”.

The name “Mobile” in Alabama, has nothing in its etymology to do with the word “moblie” in any modern usage. The word “Mobile” is believed to be a French spelling of a Choctaw Indian word for “paddlers”. Local residents today pronounce the mane /ma-BEEL/.

The process involves an asymmetric synthesis developed by a team led by Ryōji Noyori, who won the 2001 Nobel Prize for Chemistry in recognition of his work on this process

Menthol cigarettes were first developed by Lloyd “Spud” Hughes in 1924. For over two decades, Kools were the only significant menthol cigarette brand in the United States, with a market share that never got much above 2%. Their advertisements focused on “throat comfort” and the medicinal properties of menthol, and some ads even suggested occasional use: “In between the others, rest your throat with Kools.”

Lloyd’s is an insurance market located in London. It is not itself an insurance company; instead it acts as a marketplace where different underwriters come together to assess and accept risks. These underwriters (also called ‘members’) can be either companies or individuals. Most of the business written is general insurance or reinsurance.

Lloyd’s can trace its history back to the coffee house established by Edward Lloyd on Tower Street in the 17th century, which became a favoured meeting place for marine underwiters.
