“Wednesday” and “Mercredi” are named after Wotan and Mercury, respectively, because both the Old English/German Wotan and the Roman/Greek Mercury were psychopomps - they lead the souls of the dead to the afterlife.

Wait, I thought the Canadian Constitution only came about in 1982, before which you had the various BNA Acts? COuld’nt BNA be amended by a simple majority in Canada?
[/QUOTE]
The BNA Act 1867 is the foundation for Canada’s Constitution, and is still in force today (re-named the Constitution Act, 1867). The Constitution is not a single document, but a series of acts with constitutional status, collectively referred to as the Constitution of Canada.
To the contrary, the BNA Act, as an Act of the British Parliament, could only be amended by the British Parliament, on the request of the federal Parliament, with a substantial degree of provincial consent. This position was not changed by the Statute of Westminster, which expressly exempted the BNA Act from its provisions, because Canadians could not agree to an alternative amending formula. It was only in 1982 that the Constitution was fully patriated, with a domestic amending formula replacing the British Parliament.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II personally signed the act patriating the Constitution of Canada in a 1982 ceremony attended by then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
In 1986 both the Commonwealth and the UK parliaments passed legislation known as the Australia Acts. These Acts eliminated the remaining possibilities for the UK to legislate with effect in Australia, for the UK to be involved in Australian government, and for an appeal from any Australian court to a UK court.
On 2 March 1986 HM Queen Elizabeth II, while visiting Australia, signed the proclamation for the Australia Act (Cth) to come into force, simultaneously with the Australia Act (UK).
In game 6 of the 1986 World Series, the NY Mets came from behind to beat the Boston Red Sox and tie the series at 3-3. The Mets went on to win Game 7 and the Series.
Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner is unfairly blamed for the Game 6 loss with his 10th-inning error. Other key factors contributed to the loss, including:
In the 5th inning, Red Sox outfielder Dwight Evans bobbled a play that allowed the Mets’ Ray Knight to advance to third base. Knight later scored from third.
With a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 8th, Red Sox ace pitcher and AL MVP Roger Clemens did not continue pitching (he was pinch hit for in the top half of the inning), and the Mets scored to tie the game. Manager John McNamara claims that Clemens “begged out” of the game, although this is disputed.
Red Sox closer Calvin Schiraldi was sent out to the mound by McNamara in the bottom of the 10th. This would be his third inning in relief, and highly unusual for the closer (Schiraldi is not, for example, Madison Bumgarner). The Mets overcame the Red Sox’ 2-run lead to win it in that inning.
Peter Singer, author of the book Animal Liberation, was inducted into the United States Animal Rights Hall of Fame in 2000 for his support of animal rights. Singer also supports legal abortion and bestiality.
Issac Merritt Singer the founder of the Singer Sewing Company, was born in Schaghticoke, New York. (Schaghticoke is pronounced like “SKAT-a-coke”) In 1840, Singer invented the world’s first practical sewing machine by modifying a machine from Orson Phelps out of Boston. In 1851, Singer formed the I.M. Singer Sewing Company. Within 2 years, Singer was the leading sewing machine manufacturer in the United States.
In classical Greek theatre the playwright Aeschylus introduced the idea of a machine to bring actors playing gods onto the stage, in order to resolve the conflict and conclude the drama. This could be done either by a crane from above or by a lift from below.
The Greek term for this practice was απο μηχανῆς θεός, meaning “god from the machine”, and Latinised to the more familiar deus ex machina.
Prima donna is an Italian term meaning “first lady” and is applied to the leading female singer in an opera company. Its male equivalent is primo uomo.
The birth name of actress Donna Reed was Donna Belle Mullenger. After signing with MGM in 1941, Reed made her film debut that same year, but she was billed in her first feature film as Donna Adams.
Australia is the lowest continent in the world with an average elevation of only 330m. The highest points on the other continents are all more than twice the height of Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko which is 2228m above sea level.
The highest town in Australia is Perisher Valley in NSW, at 1740m.
The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. Summiting all of them is regarded as a mountaineering challenge, first postulated as such and achieved on April 30, 1985 by Richard Bass.
Richard Bass’ list of the Seven Summits differs from that of Reinhold Messner (sometimes referred to as the Messner List, or the Carstensz List) because of different definitions for the continent of Australia. The highest mountain in the Australian mainland is Mount Kosciuszko, 2,228 metres (7,310 ft) above sea level. However, the highest mountain in the Australian continent which includes Australia and New Guinea is Puncak Jaya, 4,884 m (16,024 ft) above sea level, in the Indonesian province of Papua on the island of New Guinea which lies on the Australian continental shelf. Puncak Jaya is also known as Carstensz Pyramid. Mount Kosciuszko is very easy to climb, while Puncak Jaya is difficult.
As posted above, Bass was the first to climb his list of the Seven Summits, in 1985. In 1986, Canadian mountaineer Patrick Morrow became the first to climb the Seven Summits in the “Carstensz-Version” (Messner list).
At the time of the 2010 Federal census, the center of population of Ohio was located in Morrow County, near the village of Marengo, in north-central Ohio.
