Betsy Ross of American Flag fame had three different husbands. According to oral tradition she changed the flag design from six-pointed stars to five-pointed ones after a visit from and discussion with George Washington.
Betsy Ross was a devout Quaker, a religion known for conscientious objectors, and yet was widowed twice by the Revolutionary War. Her first husband was killed in an explosion at a munitions factory and her second died on a British prison ship; husband three was a fellow POW who promised to look after his prison friend’s widow and children. Her primary living was not as a seamstress but as an upholsterer.

When Ben told him he had to operate on Hoss to save his life, he replied “I’m a drunk, not a surgeon.” Kelly would later play Dr. McCoy on Star Trek, and this line “I’m a doctor, not a __________” would become his signature.
