Those tragically slain in a Charleston, S.C. church last night were attending a weekly Bible study. May they rest in peace.

“Piobaireachd” is the “great music” (ceòl mòr) of the Highland bagpipes. It starts with the ùrlar, or “ground”, and then is followed by a series of variations on that theme, becoming more technically complex with each variation. The final variation, the "crunluath” variation, has a large number of complex embellishments, called crunluaths (see my avatar). It ends with the piper playing the ùrlar one last time.

All Qantas 747-400 aircraft include both the name of a city and the word Longreach. This signifies both the long range of the intercontinental aircraft, and the town of Longreach, Queensland, where Qantas commenced operation.
Pan Am Airlines’ first 747 to enter service was christened by First Lady Pat Nixon at Dulles International Airport on 15 January 1970. Pan Am’s Chairman, Najeeb Halaby, was present. Instead of champagne, water colored red white and blue was sprayed onto the aircraft. The 747 entered service on 22 January 1970 on Pan Am’s New York to London route.
The PanAm logo was featured prominently on commercial space vehicles in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel 2010: The Year We Make Contact. Ironically, the actual PanAm company went bankrupt and ceased operations in December 1991.
