Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

The PBS series Shining Time Station, based on Thomas the Tank Engine, starred Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor for the first year, who was replaced by George Carlin for the balance of the series’ run.

In 2012, Ringo Starr was estimated to be the wealthiest drummer in the world, worth over 225 million dollars.

Ringo was the first Beatle to become a grandfather.

Jim Ringo, Hall of Fame NFL football player, despite his grunt position and reputation, was a year ahead of his classmates in school.

Jim Ringo won two NFL championships but never was a Super Bowl champion.

John Peters Ringo (May 3, 1850-July 13, 1882), better known as Johnny Ringo, was a cowboy who became a legend of the American Old West because, among other things, of his affiliation with the Clanton Gang in the era of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, in Tombstone, Arizona. That group of outlaws was known commonly as “the cow-boys” around Tombstone, and Ringo himself was called “the King of the Cowboys”. However, short of verbal confrontations, he took no part in those events.

Ironically, despite his fame and notoriety, there are no records that he ever actually had a single classic gunfight, shooting unarmed men not counting. Even his violent death may have been at his own hand. By comparison, companions such as former Texas Ranger turned outlaw Scott Cooley, who is little known today, better fit the title of “gunfighter” than did Ringo

The last two Kings of Gondor and Arnor which we know of from the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien were Elessar, formerly known as Aragorn, and his son Eldarion.

The earth was destroyed in 2003, as we know from the writings of A. E. Van Vogt.

Douglas Adams’* The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy* series begins with Earth being destroyed by the Vogon Constructor Fleet to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Arthur Dent is the only human to survive, after hitching a ride with Ford Prefect. The notice was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign outside the door saying “Beware of the Leopard.”

NFL defensive end Richard Dent was the MVP of Super Bowl XX with the Chicago Bears when they defeated the New England Patriots, in both teams’ first-ever Super Bowl appearance, 46-10.

Dent County, Missouri, is named after state representative Lewis Dent, a pioneer settler who arrived in Missouri from Virginia in 1835.

Cuyahoga County (greater Cleveland) Executive Edward FitzGerald was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Governor of Ohio in the election of 2014. He was defeated by the incumbent Republican, John Kasich, who is now running for President.

Hall County, Texas, by changing one letter, can become either Hale County or Hill County, both also in Texas. At least five other pairs of Teas counties differ by only one letter: Dallam/Dallas, Bee/Lee, Hood/Wood, Parker/Parmer, Walker/Waller.

Texas has 254 counties, more than any other state. Texas counties begin with every letter of the alphabet except for Q and X.

Only five counties in the USA begin with the letter Q. One of them has nearly a thousand times as many inhabitants as another:
Queens County, NY 2,229,379
Quitman County, GA 2,598

When the Queensboro Bridge in NYC opened on 30 March 1909, it was originally called the Blackwell’s Island Bridge for the island, now called Roosevelt Island, over which it stood. From 1921 to 1971 the island was renamed to Welfare Island for the hospitals it was mainly used for. In 1971 the island was renamed in honor of FDR.

Your play still worked, because of San Bernardino County, Alaska Borough, and Queensboro…

California’s Inland Empire consists of the metropolitan areas of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Ontario. It is called the Inland Empire because it is about 60 miles inland and to the east of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean. The Inland Empire was formerly called the Orange Empire because of the many orange groves in the area. The Inland Empire is a nebulous region, but is defined as the cities of southwestern San Bernardino County and the cities of western Riverside County; adjacent to the Los Angeles metropolitan area. A generally broader definition will include the desert community of Palm Springs and its surrounding area, and a much larger definition will include all of San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

The Orange Free State (Oraanje Vrystaat) existed as an entity in southern Africa for 150 years. From 1854 to 1902, it was a sovereign nation, and then absorbed as a province with the formation of the Union of South Africa. It remained a province through the era of Apartheit and the Republic of South Africa, but since 1995, known only as Free State, without the reference to the Orange River Colony, originally established by the Boers.

Orange County, Florida’s main city is Orlando. It was named Mosquito County before the advent of the citrus industry there, that has since largely given way to the tourism industry.
