In the 14th and 15th centuries the Counts and Dukes of Luxembourg were also Kings of Bohemia (the modern Czech Republic).
Heh. BWIA, the initials of British West Indian Airways (1940-2006), were sometimes jokingly said to stand for “But Will It Arrive?”

Queen Elizabeth II of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland also holds the title of Duke (not Duchess) of Normandy.
John Wayne’s family moved to Palmdale, California, and then in 1916 when he was 9 to Glendale, California, where his father worked as a pharmacist. A local fireman at the station on his route to school in Glendale started calling him “Little Duke” because he never went anywhere without his huge Airedale Terrier, Duke. Wayne preferred “Duke” to “Marion”, and the name stuck for the rest of his life

Hilton Head Island in South Carolina was named by Captain William Hilton, who in 1663, identified a headland near the entrance to Port Royal Sound, which he named “Hilton’s Head” after himself
Sir Francis Bond Head was the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada in the 1830’s. He favoured the conservative faction, called the Family Compact, over the Reform faction, which was pressing for greater democracy and responsible government.
The Rebellion of 1837 was the result.
Although Head was prompt in putting down the Rebellion, the British government was equally prompt in recalling him.
His eventual replacement was Earl Durham, whose Report laid the foundations for responsible government in all the British North American colonies.
You cannot drive to Nunavut. There are no roads into Nunavut, nor are there any roads between the communities. The only roads are within the towns in Nunavut.
There is a good paved road to Chisasibi, Quebec, where it is easy to arrange an outfitter to take you a few kilometers by boat to a nearby offshore island. All islands in Hudson Bay and James Bay are within the boundaries of Nunavut and Northwest Territories, including any islands within sight of the Quebec and Ontario shore.
The École Polytechnique Massacre, occurred on December 6, 1989, at the École Polytechnique in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Twenty-five-year-old Marc Lépine, armed with a Mini-14 rifle and a hunting knife, shot 28 people, killing 14 women, before committing suicide. He began his attack by entering a classroom at the university, where he separated the male and female students. After claiming that he was “fighting feminism” and calling the women “a bunch of feminists,” he shot all nine women in the room, killing six. He then moved through corridors, the cafeteria, and another classroom, specifically targeting women to shoot. Overall, he killed fourteen women and injured ten other women and four men in just under 20 minutes before turning the gun on himself
Cool, good to know. From San Francisco, the fastest drive to Chisasibi QC is 3,600 miles. There is a route that is 200 miles shorter, but according to Google Maps that route takes 30 minutes longer. One of the northernmost places you can drive to in Canada is Inuvik NT. From San Francisco, Inuvik is only 3,100 miles by car.
And to Prudhoe Bay AK it is only a 3,500 mile drive north from San Francisco.
So many roads, so little time: http://www.dangerousroads.org/!
Missed the edit window to provide this link for the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay AK USA:
Desperado, the second studio album by the Eagles, featuring the song "Doolin’ Dalton, remains the only Eagles album where the band members appear on the front cover.
Hotel California (1976) by The Eagles was rumored to be about a hotel in Baja California in the town of Todos Santos. I’ve driven to Todos Santos, and Cabo, and Cabo Pulmo. The song is not about any hotel, but rather it is an allegory or metaphor about the loss of innocence of artists who find themselves ensnared in the “glittering web” of life in the music industry.
The Hotel California (and every rock song and rock singer is about SATANISM

The first mention of Poker was in 1829, when it was described as a game played with a 20-card deck in New Orleans… By the time of the Civil War, it had already evolved to pretty much the game that is played now, and had spread from Mississippi riverboat gambling to the western frontier…
One of the many qualities that makes Rhett Butler an outcast in Southern society is his ability to make a living playing poker. A bad card player could be accepted, but a professional one is not.
&^&(^–busted. I’ll try again.
The butler did it in the Sherlock Holmes story “The Musgrave Ritual”, although in that case it was only theft, not murder, and not the mystery; the question is why he did it, and what happened to him afterwards.
(I’ll not spoil the ending if you haven’t read that story in a while…)
