What could the protesting teachers have been thinking of?
The state of Prussia not a Cold War player, and in fact was dissolved by consensus the occupying Allied powers as of 25 February 1947, thus ending a recorded history of about 700 years.
I don 't see how I missed EH’s submission of 10:50, but I did. Maybe “as” and “pf” separately will be OK. Or are prepositions forbidden as in play takeoffs?
Prepositions, generally not. Okay, definitely not, but we’ll let it slide this time.
Oh and BTW, a suggestion - time referrals (10:50) can be unclear. I’m on the west coast, so I see his post as 7:50. Better is to use post #, so 27,636.
(Assuming the above is n play)
Whale oil was still in use as late as the 1970s, as an ingredient in some brands of Cold Cream. Due to the banning of whale harvesting, the whale oil has been largely replaced with Jojoba oil.
For several decades beginning in the early 19th century, New London, Connecticut was the second busiest whaling port in the world after New Bedford, Massachusetts.
*The Bedford Incident * is a 1965 British-American Cold War film starring Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier and coproduced by Richard Widmark. The screenplay by James Poe is based on the 1963 book by Mark Rascovich. That, in turn, was patterned after Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick.
Connecticut is an Algonquin word that means “long river”, and was used only for the Connecticut River before being applied to the entire colony/state.
The Algonquin Round Table was a group of thirty writers, editors, actors, and publicists that met on a regular basis at the Algonquin Hotel in New York. The group began lunching together in June 1919 and continued on a regular basis for about eight years.
Sometime after the group split up the hotel lost the original round table. The one in the Round Table Room today dates to 1998, when the lobby was renovated.
The Algonquians are one of the most populous and widespread North American native language groups, with tribes originally numbering in the hundreds of thousands and centered around the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes, and the Atlantic Coast.
Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, established in 1893, is the oldest provincial park in Canada. Its area is 2955 square miles. Managed industrial logging is allowed in the park which contains a living history museum focusing on Ontario’s logging industry.
Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA is near the location of the former Ontario Motor Speedway. When the track was first proposed, in 1994 Roger Penske and Kaiser made the announcement. The speedway was built on the former site of a Kaiser Steel mill there.
It is about 2,000 miles from Ontario CA to Ontario CA, but 3,000 kilometers from Ontario CA back to Ontario CA, because CA uses the metric system and CA doesn’t.
Pouting I clearly posted before Sampiro (#27641 vs #27642) but you played off of him instead of me!! WHAAAAAHHH!! <grinning>
In play: The kilometer is defined as 1,000 meters. The length of a meter has gone through several definitions, from the length of the new metre would be equal to the length of a pendulum with a half-period of one second to the metre being equal to one ten-millionth of the length of a quadrant along the Earth’s meridian through Paris, that is the distance from the equator to the north pole.
Currently, the meter is defined as as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 of a second.
Meridian, Mississippi, the state’s second largest city, once had two names, which alternated daily. The sign on the station house on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad would alternate between “Meridian” and “Sowashee” each day. Eventually the continued development of the railroads led to an influx of railroad workers who overruled the others in the city and left “Meridian” on the station permanently.
Interesting.
Sowashee means “Mad River.” Some residents wanted Meridian because they thought it was synonymous with junction. Lewis A. Ragsdale, one of the town’s founders, wanted it named Ragsdale. There, in Meridian, MS, in 1964, 7 Ku Klux Klansmen, including a deputy sheriff, were convicted in the federal courthouse in Meridian of “depriving the victims of their civil rights”. It was the first time that a white jury had convicted “a white official in a civil rights killing.”
Future Confederate President Jefferson Davis was born in Kentucky but rose to political prominence in Mississippi. After his plantation home Beauvoir near Biloxi, Miss. was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, it and its associated presidential library were rebuilt with $4 million in, ironically enough given Davis’s 1861-65 gig, Federal funds.
Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis, was regarded with suspicion by some in Virginia society because of her Northern origins (her grandfather Richard Howell was a Governor of New Jersey) and her dark eyes, hair and “olive” complexion.

The win moved Great Britain to third on the all time winners list, behind the United States (32 wins) and Australia (28 wins).
The University of California Davis was home to research project where 800 beagles were intentionally exposed to radiation.

Strontium has almost no practical industrial or commercial use. Strontium glass was better than leaded glass as an x-ray blocker in TV tubes, but cathode ray tubes are now being phased out. Strontium is also used to give red color to fireworks, and strontium chloride can be use in toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
