“Miniver Cheevy” is a narrative poem written by Edwin Arlington Robinson and first published in The Town down the River in 1910. Mary Ann Mobley was the first Mississippian to win Miss America. When she won it in 1959, a young 20-year old lady in the Philippines won Miss Aviation. She was described as a Eurasian beauty and she was the full color cover photo on the Manila Times’ Sunday Magazine in a red bathing suit. That lady married my father later that year, and two years later gave birth to me.
The Eurasian’s beauty, however, was passed on to my younger siblings. I did not keep any for myself, I decided to share instead.
