Tallulah, Louisiana, owes its name to an unrequited love. When the railroad was expanding in the area, a widow who owned a large plantation became friendly with the contractor and persuaded him to change the route of the railroad to run through her plantation. After the railroad was built, she had nothing else to do with him. Feeling rejected, he named the water stop for an old girlfriend named Tallulah, instead of the plantation owner.

Xavier University inNew Orleans is the only historically-black college in the US that is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. It was founded in 1915, through a merger of founding predecessor institutions St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Saint Katharine Drexel was canoninzed in 2000, for her work to establish institutions of learning for African Americans. She is the only canonized saint to have been born a US citizen.

A kleptocracy is a government or ruling group that advances their personal worth by siphoning wealth from a country or group of ruled peoples and redirecting into their personal accounts. A kleptocrat is the leader of such a government.
In 2004 the German anti-corruption NGO Transparency International published a list of the the top ten largest alleged kleptocrats. Number 2 on that list, having stolen (allegedly) the equivalent of $21.6 billion dollars in 2014 USD, is Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines.
The Capitol of Panem in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games is a kleptocracy, exploiting the resources and wealth of 12 districts and leaving their people at subsistence level (and barely that) while their goods are used to make life in the Capitol, a futuristic city in the Rocky Mountains, an explosion of color and excess and overindulging. Both conservative and liberal pundits have used the books and films in the series as analogies to demonstrate the evils of the opposing party.
Not only is Ferdinand Marcos listed at #2 in the NGO Transparency International list of the the top ten largest alleged kleptocrats, but also Philippine president Joseph Estrada is listed at #10. Marcos was president from 1965 to 1986, and Estrada was president from 1998 to 2001. Since 2013, Estrada has been and currently is the mayor of Manila.
In the NGO Transparency International list, the Philippines is the only country to have two kleptocrats listed. No other country is listed more than once.
Typically, Oligarchy is one of the final steps leading to Kleptocracy. The iron law of oligarchy is a political theory, first developed by the German sociologist Robert Michels in his 1911 book, Political Parties. It claims that rule by an elite, or oligarchy, is inevitable as an “iron law” within any democratic organization as part of the “tactical and technical necessities” of organization.
Michels theory states that all complex organizations, regardless of how democratic they are when started, eventually develop into oligarchies. Michels observed that since no sufficiently large and complex organization can function purely as a direct democracy, power within an organization will always get delegated to individuals within that group, elected or otherwise.
