The Supremes were a personal favorite group of Ed Sullivan, once he affectionately called “The Girls.” Over the five years they performed on the program, the Supremes performed 15 of their hit singles, and numerous Broadway showtunes and other non-Motown songs. The group featuring the most popular lineup of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard appeared 15 times from December 1964 through May 1967.
Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard were the original Supremes. The group was formed by Florence Ballard originally as a quartet named The Primettes. The Primettes were a backing vocal group for a group called The Primes, who later became The Temptations.
“Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” is a psychedelic soul song, written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong as a single for Motown act The Undisputed Truth in 1971. But it is best know as a major hit for The Temptations, whose version became a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards in 1973.
Following a concert in Clearwater FL on May 6, 1965, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones woke up from a dream with the guitar riff in his head. He recorded it quickly and fell back asleep while also recording an additional forty minutes of his snoring. Mick Jagger then wrote the lyrics in ten minutes while by the hotel pool. The result was their smash hit, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.
Musician Pete Seeger founded the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and the Clearwater Festival to draw attention to the Hudson River pollution problem. The activism led to the site being designated as one of the superfund sites.
The Creedence Clearwater Revival was originally formed as The Blue Velvets, but temporarily broke up in 1966 when two members received their draft notices during the Vietnam War.
In 1963, singer Bobby Vinton sang the song Blue Velvet and it reached #1 on the Billboard Top 100 in September. But the song was written in 1950 and first charted in 1951 when Tony Bennet (born Anthony Dominick Benedetto) sang it.
Carl Perkins told this story about the writing of his hit song “Blue Suede Shoes.” When he played a dance on December 4, 1955, he noticed a couple dancing near the stage. Between songs, Carl heard a stern, forceful voice say, “Uh-uh, don’t step on my suedes!” Carl looked down and noted that the boy was wearing blue suede shoes and one had a scuff mark. “Good gracious, a pretty little thing like that and all he can think about is his blue suede shoes”, thought Carl.
A U.S. military radar installation actually tracked the incoming Japanese naval air squadron as it approached Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, but a duty officer told the radar operators they could ignore it, believing it to be an expected flight of American B-17 bombers from the mainland.
On Sunday 07 December 1941, besides attacking Pearl Harbor that day, the Japanese also attacked the Philippines, Guam, Wake Island, Malaya, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
In 2003, Singapore’s Changi Airport won the award for “Best Airport Worldwide” for the 16th consecutive year from the UK/Europe edition of the Business Traveller magazine.
*I have been through that airport and it deserves the rating.

Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. Because pearls are made primarily of calcium carbonate, they can be dissolved in vinegar or any weak acidic solution.
Sodium carbonate, also known as washing soda, is a great water softener. It’s sold as a laundry aid.
The word surfactant is a blend or morpheme of the words surface acting agent. One example of a surfactant is soap - soap makes water “wetter” by reducing its surface tension.
If you put soap in duck pond, your ducks will sink. Ducks are not as buoyant as they seem, but they don’t sink because their oily feathers intensify the effect of surface tension, which helps keep them afloat. Cormorants have less oily plumage, so they ride much lower in the water.
A small bowl of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap added is one of the best fruit fly traps you can make. The cider vinegar attracts them and the soap traps them and drowns them.
The apple blossom is the state flower of Michigan. Apples are grown in all 50 states and are commercially grown in 36 states. The top apple producing states are Washington, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, and Virginia.
Interesting - I’ll have to try that!
