Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

In October of 2002, Canadian heavy metal singer Sebastian Bach was signed to perform in the national touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar, playing the title role alongside JCS veteran Carl Anderson. A DVD video of live performances called Forever Wild was released in June 2004.

Sebastian Bach’s real name is Sebastian Bierk, and he was born in the Bahamas, a decade after Freeport was founded as a condo investment tax haven and attracted buyers from all over the world, including Sebastian’s parents.

Actor Sebastian Cabot was also a voice performer in many Disney animated films; starting with The Sword in the Stone (1963) as both the narrator and Sir Ector, followed by Bagheera in The Jungle Book (1967), and his longest-standing role in the Winnie the Pooh series, narrating Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too (1974), and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977).

In addition to his numerous acting roles in TV, movies, etc., Sebastian Cabot also appeared in a shaving commercial in which he lathered up two spots on his cheeks and in two swipes was done. It was amusing at the time.

Sebastian Cabot played Mr. Giles French on A Family Affair, a show that also starred Brian Keith, USMC, Kathy Garver, Johnny Whitaker, and Anissa Jones.

The father of Anissa Jones was a man named John Paul Jones.

ETA: Before A Family Affair, Kathy Garver was a slave in the film The Ten Commandments (1956).

Singer Paul Jones, born as Paul Pond, performed duets with Elmo Lewis (better known as future founder member of the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones) under the name P.P. Jones, at the Ealing Club, home of Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated, whose singers included Long John Baldry and Mick Jagger. He also originated the role of Juan Peron on the first concept album of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita.

The San Francisco Bay salt ponds lie at the south end of San Francisco Bay and can be seen on landing approach into SFO. A kaleidoscope of colors in the jigsaw puzzle-like ponds is caused by the microorganisms and micro-algae living in the different ponds. The evaporation ponds cover an array of hues from bright green, where low salinity encourages green algae to thrive, to a deep coral pink or red hue that is caused by the algae Dunaliella, producing a red pigment in response to high salt content. A high number of tiny brine shrimp cast an orange sheen to the ponds that are considered mid-salinity.

On March 12, 1930, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi began a 24-day walk (the “Salt March”) in defiance of a British tax on producing salt in colonial India. The march, also known as the “Salt Satyagraha,” was an important part of the Indian independence movement.

The first film role for which Daniel Day Lewis was listed in the credits was as Colin, a young South African who menaces the title character in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi. He had previously appeared on TV movies and series, and also made an uncredited appearance at age 14, as a “child vandal” in Sunday Bloody Sunday

Gulls are the only birds whose age can be determined from a distance with the naked eye. Most species of gulls pass through four distinctive plumage phases through the first four years of their life, the fourth stage being retained through adulthood.

Hen feathering in cocks is a genetically conditioned character in domestic fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus). Males with this condition develop a female-type plumage, although otherwise look and respond like virile males. In some breeds, one can see males that have a plumage completely similar in all aspects to that of females. The trait is controlled by a simple autosomic dominant gene, whose expression is limited to the male sex. The condition is due to an enhanced activity of the aromatase complex of enzymes responsible for estrogen synthesis. So estrogen formation in the skin is as much as several hundred-fold higher than that of normal chickens.

Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone. The name estrogen comes from the Greek οἶστρος (oistros), literally meaning “verve or inspiration” but figuratively sexual passion or desire, and the suffix -gen, meaning “producer of”.

According to Oprah (or, oprah.com), the best day for females to have orgasms is on
day 14 of their menstrual cycle. A study in The Journal of Sexual Medicine shows that on this day—or night—during sex a woman’s clitoris grows up to 20 percent, increasing her chance of arousal. This makes evolutionary sense, as it’s also around the time that ovulation occurs.

Hillary Clinton of Illinois won the Ohio Democratic primary in 2008, but lost the presidential nomination to then-Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

ETA: I have no idea when, if ever, Hillary Clinton undergoes ovulation.

The average age of menopause (when women stop ovulating) in the US is typically between 49 and 54; virtually all women reach menopause by age 60. Hillary Clinton is 69 years old.

Hillary Clinton was the only First Lady to be subpoenaed, which occurred due to her involvement with the Whitewater controversy in 1996. She was also first to repeatedly be deposed as part of ongoing criminal and civil investigations, including Travelgate and Filegate. Bill and Hillary were the only First Couple to be fingerprinted by the FBI.

The first criminal case to be solved using fingerprint identification was in Argentina in 1892. Police official Juan Vucetich was able to identify Francisca Rojas, a woman who murdered her two children and cut her own throat in an attempt to place blame on another. Her bloody print was left on a door post, proving her identity as the murderer.

The human microbiome, which is all of our microbes’ genes, can be considered a counterpart to the human genome. The genes in our microbiome outnumber the genes in our genome by about 100 to 1. The human microbiome is completely unique to each individual. The collective DNA of the bacteria, fungi, and viruses that make up your microbiome is a huge repository of information about your health, environment, diet, and genetics. Forensic scientists are currently exploring the possibility of using microbiomes for identification, and testimony based on microbial forensic techniques has already been admitted in some U.S. courts. The microbiome may replace the fingerprint for identifying a person.

Horizontal gene transfer is invoked to explain how there is often an extreme similarity between small portions of the genomes of two organisms that are otherwise very distantly related. Horizontal gene transfer seems to be common among many microbes. Also, eukaryotic cells seem to have experienced a transfer of some genetic material from their chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes to their nuclear chromosomes.

In 1948, Cleveland Indians rookie pitcher Gene Bearden, who had overcome major war injuries, started and won his last seven starts, the playoff game against the Boston Red Sox, Game 3 of the World Series (a complete game shutout) against the Boston Braves, and saved Game 6 in relief for the Tribe’s last championship. Having not won the Series since, they are now the MLB team with the longest drought.
