Mexico’s Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery produces Dos Equis, a lager that was originally brewed by the German-born Mexican brewer Wilhelm Hasse in 1897. The brand was named Siglo XX (“20th century”) to commemorate the arrival of the new century, and the bottles were marked with the Roman numeral for 20 (“XX”), thus “Dos Equis” which is Spanish for “two Xs”. The brand has been advertised recently in the US with its “Most Interesting Man in the World” campaign.

Kaiser Wilhelm II, who led Germany to catastrophic defeat in World War I and eventually abdicated the throne, was born with a stunted left arm and was always careful to keep it covered with a cloak, resting on the hilt of a sword, or away from the camera when photographed.

The Henry J. Kaiser class is an American class of eighteen fleet replenishment oilers which began construction in August 1984. They are operated by the Military Sealift Command to provide underway replenishment of fuel to United States Navy combat ships and jet fuel for aircraft aboard aircraft carriers at sea. The class is named for the American industrialist and shipbuilder Henry J. Kaiser, who built the famous “Liberty ships” during WWII.

The successors to the Kaiser-class fleet oilers are the John Lewis class, the first ship of which is named after civil rights leader and Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.). Others in the class are expected to include the USNS - U.S. Naval Ship, since they will serve in the Military Sealift Command and not the Navy - Harvey Milk, Robert F. Kennedy, Earl Warren, Lucy Stone and Sojourner Truth.

Earl Warren’s father was a Norwegian immigrant (originally Varren) and his mother was a Swedish immigrant. He was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in Bakersfield. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Juris Doctor degree in Law from University of California, Berkeley. At the 1948 Republican Party convention, Warren’s classmate and lifetime friend Robert Sproul, the President of the University of California, put Warren’s name in nomination for Vice President of the United States.

In July 1942 the Permanente Foundation was founded by Henry J. Kaiser and Sidney R. Garfield, having the purpose of operating hospitals in Northern California to provide outpatient care to health plan members. Kaisers’ first wife, Bess Fosburgh, liked the name of a creek in Cupertino where Kaiser’s first cement plant had been built—Permanente Creek—so that was the name first given to the health organization (later adding Kaiser’s name).

Kaiser introduced America’s first storebought automobile. Henry J. Kaiser established a fledgling car company to fill the post-WWII demand with the full size Kaiser and Fraser makes, as well as a compact, the Henry J. The company then contracted with Sears Roebuck, to rebadge some Henry Js with the Allstate brand, which could be ordered from a Sears wish-book catalog.

The original mail order retailer was Aaron Montgomery Ward. When he first issued a “catalog” in August 1872, it consisted of an 8 in × 12 in single-sheet price list, listing 163 items for sale.
In 1883, the company’s catalog, which became popularly known as the “Wish Book”, had grown to 240 pages and 10,000 items. In 1896, Wards encountered its first serious competition in the mail order business, when Richard Warren Sears introduced his first general catalog.

Montgomery Ward filed suit against developers who wanted to build on the area which is now Millennium Park. His efforts saved the open space near Lake Michigan and the downtown (the “Loop”).

In the Batman tv series, Burt Ward played Dick Grayson, who was Bruce Wayne’s ward.

Devin Kalile Grayson is an American writer of comic books and novels. She has worked previously on writing for the comic Nightwing, which stars a grown-up Dick Grayson who has struck out on his own as a crime-fighter.

Grayson is the villain in the folk song “(Hang Down Your Head) Tom Dooley”, which was a #1 hit for the Kingston Trio.

The destroyer USS Ward fired the first American shots at the Battle of Pearl Harbor when she engaged and sank a Japanese two-man midget submarine near the harbor entrance early on Dec. 7, 1941. Japanese warplanes arrived and attacked the base about four hours later. The Ward was named in honor of Cmdr. James Harmon Ward, the first U.S. Navy officer to be killed in action during the American Civil War.
