In its life cycle, an adult flounderhas two eyes situated on one side of its head, while at hatching one eye is located on each side of its head. One eye migrates to the other side of the body through a process of metamorphosis as it grows from larval to juvenile stage. As an adult, a flounder changes its habits and camouflages itself by lying on the bottom of the ocean floor as protection against predators. As a result, the eyes are then on the side which faces up. The side to which the eyes migrate is dependent on the species type.

In 1963, the USS Thresher (SSN-593) was the first nuclear submarine to be lost at sea. It sank in the saltwater sea some 200 miles east of Cape Cod MA. All 129 souls on board were lost.
In 2000, the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk was lost at sea and all 118 souls on board were lost.
The Argentinian ARA San Juan (S-42), a diesel-electric submarine, was lost at sea last 15 November with 44 souls on board, somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean floor.
Sikorsky built 10 S-42 flying boats, all for Pan American World Airways. They were used primarily on the Miami - Rio de Janeiro route, before being replaced by the larger and longer-ranged Boeing 314’s. No S-42’s or 314’s remain extant today.
The two major aircraft manufacturers today are Boeing, based in Seattle, and Airbus, in Toulouse. Boeing’s revenues for 2016 were $65 billion and Airbus’s $66.6 billion.
Following behind was Bombardier, based in Dorval, Quebec, Canada, with aerospace division revenues of $9.2 billion. “Bombardier is the world’s leading manufacturer of both planes and trains,” says the company. That is to say it leads among the few companies that make both forms of transit - not that it leads in both markets.
Bombardier Transportation is the rail equipment division of the Canadian firm Bombardier Inc. Despite being a Canadian company, the headquarters for this division is located in Berlin, Germany.

Captain Kirk — he is played by actor William Shatner who is Canadian. Shatner was born in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Captain James Tiberius “Jim” Kirk will be born on March 22, 2233 in Riverside, Iowa. The poor guy will die in the year 2371, in the movie Star Trek Generations.
Bombardier (an ironic name for a commercial passenger plane) was introduced in 1984 as the DeHavilland Dash. There are still over 1,200 in service, mostly on flights using short runways. They offer one of the last remaining opportunities for airline passengers to look out the window and see propellors spinning. I have flown on three of them in the past couple of years.,

The De Havilland Law is the informal name of a California law that prevents a specific performance of an exclusive personal services contract beyond seven calendar years. Actress Olivia de Havilland filed a lawsuit on August 23, 1943 against Warner Bros. that resulted in a landmark decision in her favor, and her legal victory reduced the power of movie studios and extended greater creative freedom to performers. The decision was one of the most significant and far-reaching legal rulings in Hollywood.

The famous “casting couch” came to prominence in Hollywood (although there were stories from the silent years) with the exploits of MGM studio mogul Louis Mayer, whose gropings of the young Judy Garland may have contributed to her later substance abuse problem. Tippi Hedren’s resistance to Alfred Hitchcock virtually ended her career.
The male septipus (Haliphron atlanticus) appears to have just seven arms, but is in fact in the Octopus Order — its eighth arm is adapted as a sex organ and is hard to see, coiled away in a sac near the right eye when it’s not groping a female.

The Aeschylus play Seven Against Thebes features mostly talking, but little action, involving the citizens of Thebes, Greece and King Eteoclus in the face of an attack by the Argive army. Eventually Eteoclus and the Argive commander he faces, his brother Polynices, slay each other at the seventh gate of the city.

The name Plantagenetis used by modern historians to identify four distinct royal houses – the Angevins who were also Counts of Anjou, the main body of the Plantagenets following the loss of Anjou, and the houses of Lancaster and York, the Plantagenets’ two cadet branches. The family held the English throne from 1154, with the accession of Henry II, until 1485, when Richard III died. One of many popular theories suggests the common broom,* planta genista* in medieval Latin, as the source of the name.
George R.R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones, has acknowledged in interviews that his tale of dynastic civil war in Westeros was partly inspired by England’s War of the Roses. The English royal houses of Lancaster and York are roughly paralleled by Martin’s houses of Lannister and Stark.
Both parts of the name of the city of Albany, New York were named after the future King James II of England. He was designated Duke of York at birth and given the additional title Duke of Albany after his brother, Charles II, was restored to the English throne.
The Archbishop of York is a senior bishop in the Church of England, second only to the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Willa Cather’s historical novel Death Comes for the Archbishop was based on the real lives of Jean-Baptiste Lamy and Joseph Projectus Machebeuf, who were missionaries to the Indian tribes of New Mexico.
New Mexico has the lowest water-to-land ratio of all 50 states. Lakes and Rivers make up only .002% of the state’s total surface area. Most of New Mexico’s lakes are man-made reservoirs. A dam on the Rio Grande formed the Elephant Butte Reservoir as the state’s largest lake.

New Mexico, along with all of the territory of the contiguous United States west of the Louisiana Purchase except for the Gadsden Purchase, was added to the US during the single term of under-remembered President James K. Polk. He was responsible for completing the annexation of Texas, negotiating the border that split the Oregon Territory with Britain, and prosecuting and winning the Mexican-American War.
