The National Geographic magazine is now known for its use of vivid photography. But that wasn’t always the case, as the magazine didn’t publish a single photo in its first 14 years. It also does not accept any liquor or cigarette advertising

For the first 13 years of National Geographic’s existence as a magazine, there was no magazine that published photographs. The Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung was the first to pioneer the format of the illustrated news magazine in 1901, when it began to print photographs inside the magazine, a revolutionary innovation.

National Geographic has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888.

1888 was the Dreikaiserjahre - “year of three kaisers”.

The Year of Three Popes occurred in 1978. The three popes involved were:

John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) who was elected on 16 October 1978 and held the position until his death 26 years later on 2 April 2005.

There were several Years of Three Popes throughout papal history; the most recent one prior to 1978 was in 1605.

Triplicate Girl was a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes with the power to split into three identical people. She died in battle against Computo and the other giant computer robots, killed by a disintegrating ray.

The Legion held a funeral for her, sending what ashes they could collect to a graveyard planet for superheroes.

Then after the funeral, she re-appeared. It turned out that she had been in her three people mode and one of those had been killed, but the other two survived. From thenceforth, she was Duo Damsel.
