Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Another popular kids show from that time was Zoom. One feature of this show was the Fanny Dooly segments, in which Fanny would be said to like certain things, and hate others. For instance, she may like Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, but have no use for John Paul, George, or Ringo.

From the beginning of Martin Van Buren’s Presidential term through to the end of Andrew Johnson’s term, a period of 32 years, the US did not have any President serve two full terms. Before Van Buren was Andrew Jackson, and after Johnson was Ulysses Grant.

And during that stretch we had William Henry Harrison.

(Ninja’ed, never mind! )

The Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle began with the 1984 GPZ900R and has become a continuing series of motorcycles up to and including the current Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX 1,000cc.

The Kawasaki brand is likely best-known in the U.S. for their motorcycles and other gasoline-powered personal vehicles. However, the parent company, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, produces products in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, railroad locomotives and rolling stock, shipbuilding, energy plants, and industrial equipment.

The Schenectady Locomotive Works, of Schenectady NY, operated from 1848 through its merger into Alco, American Locomotive Company, in 1901. Alco was formed by the merger of Schenectady Locomotive Engine Manufactory of Schenectady, New York, with seven smaller locomotive manufacturers. Alco went out of business in 1969. The Schenectady Locomotive Works was originally known as Schenectady Locomotive Engine Manufactory. Among its most famous locomotives was the Central Pacific Railroad’s type 4-4-0 No. 60, the Jupiter, that was built in September 1868. Jupiter was one of two steam locomotives to take part in the “Golden Spike Ceremony” to celebrate the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad.

The site of the former Schenectady Locomotive Works/Alco is now the location of the Rivers Casino.

Gambling in Macau started during its time as a Portuguese colony in the 1800s; it was transferred to the People’s Republic of China in 1999 and became a special administrative region of China. It is now the gambling capital of the world, with revenues at least six times those of Las Vegas. The Venetian Macao is currently the largest casino in the world.

Las Vegas has the largest consumption of 7-Eleven Big Gulps. Also, the people of Las Vegas consume more than 60,000 pounds of shrimp every day, which is more than the rest of the United States combined.

Leviticus 11 gives the laws of kosher food, and of creatures that live in the water, only those that have fins and scales are considered kosher. Shrimp and other shellfish don’t, so they are considered non-kosher, or treif.

Bills passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by the President, or passed over his (and someday her) veto, as well as treaties duly ratified by the Senate, are considered the “supreme law of the land” under the United States Constitution.

“Sea-Monkeys” are the marketing name for a breed of brine shrimp (Artemia salina) which have been sold as a novelty pet since the 1950s.

Brine shrimp are able to undergo anhydrobiosis – that is, they can survive for long periods of time in a dessicated state. The maker of Sea-Monkeys ships the shrimp to customers in a dried state; when the customer places the dried Sea-Monkeys in water, they “come to life.”

Sea-Monkeys were advertised extensively in comic books in the 1960s and 1970s; in the ads, the creatures were depicted as being humanoid in the ads, leading to much disappointment among young buyers.

Edit: despite the deceptive advertising for Sea-Monkeys, it does not appear that any laws were actually broken.

When pitching for the New York Mets in the 60s, Nolan Ryan would soak his fingers in pickle brine to prevent blisters.

Michael “Mike” Shayne, a fictional private detective character created by writer Brett Halliday (a pseudonym of Davis Dresser) appeared in a series of seven films starring Lloyd Nolan, five films with Hugh Beaumont, a radio series under a variety of titles between 1944 and 1953, and later in 1960–1961 in a 32-episode NBC television series starring Richard Denning in the title role.

Hugh Beaumont, the father on Leave It to Beaver, was an ordained Methodist minister who had previously worked with Jerry Mathers (“the Beaver”) in a religious film.

When asked during an audition if he’d rather be somewhere else, Jerry Mathers said he would. He got the job because the producers didn’t want another kid actor, but someone more genuine like Jerry.

White Detroit rapper Marshall Mathers is best known as Eminem, from his initials. He won his first Grammy in 1999 with The Slim Shady LP.

In the early 1970s, a story was widely reported that Ken Osmond, who played Eddie Haskell on Leave It To Beaver" had become rock star Alice Cooper. According to Cooper, the rumor began when a college newspaper editor asked him what kind of kid he was, to which Cooper replied “I was obnoxious, disgusting, a real Eddie Haskell”; however, the story ended up reporting that Cooper was the real Eddie Haskell. Cooper would later tell the New Times, “It was the biggest rumor that ever came out about me. Finally, I got a T-shirt that said ‘No, I am not Eddie Haskell.’ But people still believed it.”

Another widely reported urban legend of the 1970’s was that Osmond had grown up to become adult film star John Holmes. The story apparently began when fan magazines falsely reported that Osmond had embarked on such a career. The rumor was dispelled when a Los Angeles movie theater lit up its marquee advertising “Eddie Haskell of TV in ‘Behind the Green Door’ - X-rated”, prompting Osmond himself, then an LAPD officer, to go to the theater to request that the manager of the theater pull the plug on the marquee.

(And I do not know why Law & Order hasn’t fictionalized that story).

Four current teams have never reached the Super Bowl: the Cleveland Browns, the Detroit Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Houston Texans. The Browns and Lions were NFL champions before Super Bowl I in 1966, most recently in 1964 (Browns) and 1957 (Lions). The Jaguars and the Texans were expansion teams, joining the league in 1995 and 2002, respectively.

Ninja’d, so adding: the 1970s was the first full decade of Super Bowls.

As the designated home team for the International Series, the Jacksonville Jaguars are often mentioned as the most likely existing NFL team to relocate to London, leaving their current home of TIAA Bank Field in Florida (formerly known as the Gator Bowl). It is often pointed out in support that current Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is himself based in London, and also owns Fulham F.C.
