Joe Barry Carroll was the number one draft pick in 1980, selected by the Golden State Warriors. Many have labeled Carroll as one of the biggest busts in NBA Draft history, giving him the nickname “Joe Barely Cares” for his perceived indifference to the game.

Ronald Reagan won the U.S. Presidency in 1980 and the Republicans took control of the U.S. Senate for the first time in a generation, laying the groundwork for the so-called “Reagan Revolution” of lower taxes, a massive defense buildup, social-welfare cuts and a burgeoning Federal budget deficit.
This is trivia?
Ronald Reagan was the only President to have been the head of a labor union.
Woodrow Wilson is the only US president to have earned a doctorate. (He was president of Princeton University at one point.)
Princeton is the main character of the musical Avenue Q, a recent college graduate who wonders What Do Y "With a B.A. in English as he settles in a building managed by Gary Coleman where he falls in love with Kate Monster.
Actress Maggie Q’s full name is Margaret Denise Quigley. While she is an American of Vietnamese ancestry, she became famous working in the Hong Kong film industry.
Sen. William Spong of Virginia, according to his cousin, “was invited with the other freshman senators to address the National Press Club. Fearful that someone on radio or television would call him Senator Sponge, he used his brief five-minute introductory speech to that body to secure proper name identification. His first act as a senator, he announced in his southern drawl, would be to introduce a bill to protect the rights of songwriters in Hong Kong. He would be joined in this effort by the senior senator of Louisiana, Russell Long, and the senior senator from Hawaii, Hiram Fong, and together they would present the Long Fong Spong Hong Kong Song Bill. His name was never mispronounced by members of the media.”
(Phew … got that entered in time to prevent EH from telling us about the ST:TNG character …)
Hong Kong Phooey was an animated children’s series in the 1970s featuring a mild-mannered janitor working for the police department who would change into a costumed crime fighter. The voice of Hong Kong Phooey was provided by Scatman Crothers.
While Meadowlark Lemon acted in a number of movies and television series, he did not provide the voice for his own character in The Harlem Globetrotters animated series. His voice was done by Scatman Crothers.
Lemons are believed to have begun as a hybrid of wild oranges and citrons probably engineered in India thousands of years ago. They became popular in the Mediterranean area in the middle ages but mainly for decoration; until sugar they were rarely eaten for anything other than medicinal reasons.
The Cleveland Indians baseball team had a dominant pitching staff from the late 1940’s to the mid 1950’s, featuring Bob Lemon (a Hall of Famer who is second in career home runs hit by pitchers, with 37), Early Wynn, Mike Garcia, and “Rapid Robert” Bob Feller.
Wynn, who had a long career, is the most-linked player in baseball history - more players have a Wynn Number of 1 than any other teammate.

I know a Soong, but no Spong, in ST:TNG. ![]()
President Bill Clinton threw out the first pitch to ceremonially open Jacobs Field (now Progressive Field), the Cleveland Indians’ new ballpark, on April 4, 1994. The Indians then defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-3 in 11 innings.
Jim Jacobs was probably the most dominating handball player of his time (1950s-1960s), with six doubles championships and six singles championship (he and his doubles partner never lost a match in 12 years). Those who knew him felt he would have excelled at any sport (he had been asked to try out for the Olympic basketball team). Later, Jacobs made a name for himself as a collector of boxing films, with one of the largest collections in the world, which he made into hundreds of compilation films. Nearly all stock footage of fights prior to the television era come from his collection. He also managed boxers Wilfred Benetez and Mike Tyson.
Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs is an African-American actor, probably best known for playing Freddie “Boom-Boom” Washington, one of the “Sweathogs” in the 1970s comedy series Welcome Back Kotter (the series which provided John Travolta with his big break). Washington has worked steadily in series television ever since, mostly in guest spots, including a role as the President of Zambia in a recent episode of Chuck.
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of the 20th Maine was not awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism and leadership on Little Round Top during the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg until thirty years later.
The Tuskegee Airmen, World Wr II’s “colored” fighting pilots, were not awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor until 2007.
The Tuskegee Airmen were referred to as the “Redtails” for the distinctive color scheme of their P-51 fighters, and won fame and praise for their bravery in escorting Allied bombers over Nazi-occupied Western Europe.
Red Tails, a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terence Howard, Bryan Cranston, and Gerald McRaney, is scheduled to be released later in 2010. George Lucas wrote the story, and served as executive producer; the movie had been in development, by Lucas, since 1990.
Among Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s noteworthy career roles have been an aspiring LA kid from the wrong side of the tracks (Boyz n the Hood), an Army helicopter pilot (Outbreak), a egomaniac football star (Jerry McGuire) and a tour bus driver for a group of Lucille Ball impersonators (Rat Race).
Cuba Gooding Sr. was the lead singer for the soul group The Main Ingredient, whose sole major hit was 1972’s “Everybody Plays the Fool”. He was named for the country of his birth, to which his parents had fled from Barbados, although his mother was murdered there anyway for her association with Pan-Africanist activist Marcus Garvey.
