Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Stephen Foster, composer of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair, died with three cents in his pocket, along with 35 cents worth of scrip.

The official title of Stephen Foster’s “Camptown Races” is “Gwine to Run All Night.”

Slim Pickens and his cowboy sidekicks sang and danced “Camptown Ladies” to a black audience in “Blazing Saddles”.

Slim Pickens played Major T.J. “King” Kong in Dr. Strangelove in which he goes through a survival kit that includes gold, cigarettes and condoms.

Since Dr. Strangelove was shot before, but released after, JFK’s assassination, Pickens dubbed over his line “A fella could have hisself a pretty good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff” with the name “Vegas” substituted.

Las Vegas coined itself “Atomic City” during the early 1950s.

Blue Oyster Cult released the song “Godzilla.”

Ahem. Can we get a ruling here? Is simply alluding to the previous trivia allowed?

I actually really like oblique links; back on page five I followed a mention of Gomer Pyle with a bit of trivia regarding the Marvel Comics character Shazam. That said, I don’t quite get the link from blondebear’s post to 5 time champ’s.

Oysters can change their sex.

Rulers have been found that date back to the 24th century BC, marked to 1/16th-inch accuracy.

“Oyster” is a trademark used by Rolex for its water-resistant watch casings. Rolex watches have very likely been owned by the rulers of many nations.

My post 846 originally keyed off of King Kong in post 844 with trivia about King Kong vs Godzilla.

By the time I hit submit, **ElvisL1ves ** had beat me to it and King Kong was no longer in play. I edited my trivia to key off “Vegas”…that made 5 time champ’s post seem out of place.

A Rolex owned by Bernie Madoff ironically dubbed “the Prisoner Watch” because of its design based on the watches made for Allied prisoners during World War II, was auctioned by U.S. Marshals for $65,000.

Thanks blondebear I thought I was going crazy for a moment.

U.S. Marshals are appointed by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. There is one for each of the 93 Federal districts, and most have many deputies.

Federal Judges are appointed by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. One such judge, Kim McLane Wardlaw, was a cheerleader at my high school.

Federal judges are allowed by law to employ law clerks to assist in their duties; typically two for district judges, three for circuit court of appeals judges, and four for Supeme Court justices (five for the Chief Justice). Law clerks are generally the recent top graduates of their law school classes and have a number of duties, including researching and drafting opinions.

Federal Judge Sarah T. Hughes was the first woman to swear in a new President, the first person to do so in Texas, and the first person to do so on an airplane, when she did the honors for Lyndon Johnson.

<blush> Didn’t realize there was another page …

Lyndon B Johnson once famously picked up one of his pet beagles by it’s ears for reporters.
