Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

The earliest known written version of “What are little boys made of” was written in 1799 by the English poet Robert Southey and contains the lines:

What are little boys made of made of
What are little boys made of
Snips & snails & puppy dogs tails
And such are little boys made of.

What are young women made of, &c
Sugar & spice & all things nice

The Star Trek episode What Are Little Girls Made Of featured Ted Cassidy and Sherry Jackson playing androids.

Ted Cassidy played both Lurch and Thing on The Addams Family, and is credited with inventing the “You rang?” line. He also played Bigfoot in a story arc on The Six Million Dollar Man, taking over a role that Andre the Giant had played previously.

Not only was Texas Ranger (as in lawman, not baseball player) William A.A. Wallace known as “Bigfoot”, he spent his final years near the village of Bigfoot in the southern part of the Lone Star State.

The lyrics to the Chad Mitchell Trio hit “James James Morrisson Morrisson” is actually a poem by A.A. Milne called “Disobedience.”

John Denver got his first fame as a musician as the replacement for Chat Mitchell in the Chad Mitchell Trio.

French Equatorial Africa comprised the present-day countries of Chad, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Gabon, as well as part of Cameroon.

Joseph Jr., John and Robert Kennedy all served in the United States Navy. A destroyer was named after Joe Jr., who died during World War II, and the ship served perhaps most notably during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when JFK was President. JFK’s wife Jacqueline was known for her love of French cooking, art and fashion.

Michael Peter Balzary, better known as Flea, and Anthony Kiedis, both members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, were both born during the Cuban Missile Crisis (Flea on Oct. 16 and Kiedis two weeks later on Nov. 1).

The Red Hot Chili Peppers recently performed the Neil Young song Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.

Soldiers of the Red Army committed tens of thousands of rapes as they pushed west through Germany in the last year of World War II and after the fall of Berlin.

"Rape’ is a name given to a yellow flowering member of the mustard family and is a major vegetable oil crop, using the oil from its seeds. In recent years, though, the name “rapeseed oil” has been phased out by producers in favor of “canola oil.”

The major difference between cultivars known as “rape” and ones known as “canola” is that canola has much lower levels of erucic acid, which is unpalatable and potentially harmful to both livestock and humans. The name “canola” was coined in 1978 to describe CANadian Oil, Low Acid varieties.

According to Irish mythology, the harp was designed by Canola after she heard wind blowing through the sinew attached to a whale skeleton.

Rapeseed/canola is in the same genus as:
cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, collard greens, broccoli, kohlrabi, and Chinese broccoli, all of which are the very same species: Brassica oleracea.

(ETA due to missing sternvogel’s post):

By coincidence, brassica is also a specific name for the gastropod Hexaplex brassica, sometimes called “harp shell.”

A cláirseach or golden harp, an ancient heraldic symbol of Ireland, appears on the flag of the President of Ireland.

Starting in 1984, Kathy Ireland was featured in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for 13 consecutive years, with her final appearance in 1996. In addition to her long tenure within the pages, Ireland appeared on the cover of the annual issue three times, a feat tied by Christie Brinkley and Cheryl Tiegs and surpassed only by Elle Macpherson (with five appearances). Ireland was the cover model for the first time on the 25th Anniversary Swimsuit Edition, which became SI’s best selling swimsuit issue to date.

Ireland was part of Great Britain during World War I and thus fully engaged in the British war effort. By the time of World War II, the Republic of Ireland governed most of Ireland and remained neutral. Most Allied and German military personnel who ended up in Ireland due to shipwreck or planecrash were interned for the duration of the war, called “The Emergency” in Ireland.

John Ireland met Joanne Dru on the set of the film Red River and a romance ensued. This angered director Howard Hawks, who wanted to bed Dru himself. In retaliation, Hawks cut Ireland’s role considerably, having him vanish during much of the movie. Ireland married Dru after the movie was completed, but he never became a big star, partly because he didn’t get a chance to reach stardom in the film.
