Henry Ford II succeeded his grandfather as Chairman of Ford Motor Company. The elder Ford’s only child, Edsel, died four years before his father.

The TV show, The FBI was sponsored by Ford Motors. All FBI cars were Fords; bad guys used other makes. At the same time, Ford changed their slogan to “Ford has a Better Idea” to use the FBI initials.

The FBI’s motto is “Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.”

Although the novel High Fidelity takes place in London, the film of the same name (based on the book) is set in Chicago.

In Doonesbury, Duke hated it when his neighbour John Denver played “Rocky Mountain High” down by the creek.

Henry Deutchendorf replaced Chad Mitchell in the folk group, The Chad Mitchell Trio, best known for their satirical song, “The John Birch Society.” The name of the group was changed to the Mitchell Trio at that time. Deutchensdorf had already changed his name to John Denver at the time.

Tom Paxton auditioned for the Chad Mitchell trio, but they turned him down. However, he did make a buttload of money when they recorded his song “The Marvelous Toy,” Paxton also wrote two of Denver’s biggest hits, “Forest Lawn” and “Whose Garden Was This?”

More than 250,000 people are buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California and over a million people visit it each year, including thousands of schoolchildren on field trips. Among those interred are such notables as Humphrey Bogart, Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr, Walt Disney, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Virginia O’Brien, Jimmy Stewart, Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracy.

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, is the head of the household in the very popular PBS series Downton Abbey, set in 1912-17. The last actual Earl of Grantham died in 1754.

Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon were present at both the 1961 and 1969 inaugural ceremonies. The first time around, Johnson was the Vice President-elect and Nixon was the incumbent Vice President who had been defeated in his run for the Presidency. Eight years later to the day, Johnson was the President leaving office and Nixon was succeeding him.

Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore were not inaugurated when their terms as President and Vice President should have begun on March 4, 1849. Since the terms of President James Polk and Vice President George Dallas expired on that day, the next in line to become President would have been Senate President Pro Tempore David R. Atchison.

However, since the terms of Atchison and House Speaker Robert Winthrop also expired on March 4, there was officially no one to take office until Taylor and Fillmore were inaugurated the next day.

The current Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Andrew Scheer from Saskatchewan, is the youngest Speaker in Canada’s history, elected at age 32.

The 1925 Reading Keystones of the International League featured what may have been the only Jewish shortstop-second baseman combo in professional baseball history. Heinie Scheer was the shortstop, while the keystone sack was held down by Moe Berg, later to gain fame as a catcher in the big leagues as well as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services and all-around “brainiac”.

Speaker Scheer recently inked a deal with Glenmorangie Distillery in Scotland for a specially labelled single malt, called “Speaker’s Select”, which is described by the media as “Ottawa’s most exclusive tipple, and is often used as a tony gift for visiting VIPs.”

The King James Bible was designed to be read aloud in churches. Accounts of the editing process indicate that the final drafts were read aloud to the various committee members. Some commentators have suggested that this emphasis on the oral nature of the KJ Bible is one of the reasons it has been so influential.
