Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Duncan Hines was originally a traveling salesman for a Chicago printer and by age 55 in 1935 had eaten a lot of good and bad meals on the road all across the US. At this time, there was no interstate highway system and only a few chain restaurants except for those in large, populated areas. Therefore, travelers depended on getting a good meal at a local restaurant. So he started doing restaurant ratings for travelers. That morphed into a newspaper food column that included recipes, he eventually put out a bread brand produced by an upstate-New York bakery, and the rest is history.

Summer of '42 is a 1971 American coming-of-age drama film based on the memoirs of screenwriter Herman Raucher. It tells the story of how Raucher, in his early teens on his 1942 summer vacation on Nantucket Island, off the coast of New England, embarked on a one-sided romance with a woman, Dorothy, whose husband had gone off to fight in World War II.

Herman Raucher’s story was satirized in MAD Magazine under the title “The Trauma of '42.” In MAD, the protagonist Hermie was renamed Wormy.

Although set in Nantucket, in the 1970s Nantucket Island was far too modern for a 1942 setting, so the film was shot on the Mendocino coast in California.
