Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Ralph Lauren began his career in fashion as a salesman for Brooks Brothers. He would eventually get sued by his former employer over the design of his button down polo shirts.

NBA point guard Scott Brooks had an otherwise unremarkable career, but he owns the single-game record for assists, with an unreal total of 31.

“Metal Impacts is a leading Manufacturers & Suppliers of Mobile Compactor, Mobile Compactors Racks, Heavy Duty Pallet Racks, Heavy Duty Rack and Compactors Racks in Bangalore, India.”

Still in play: NBA point guard Scott Brooks had an otherwise unremarkable career, but he owns the single-game record for assists, with an unreal total of 31.

In Brooks Brothers’ history, John R. Voorhis – the one-time Grand Sachem of Tammany Hall – holds the record for Brooks Brothers customer loyalty. When he was 10, his mother bought him his first long pants at Brooks Brothers. Until his death at 102, he never bought a suit anywhere else.

Scott Brooks is the current head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He replaced P. J. Carlesimo who is the current coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

P. J. Carlesimo coached the Seton Hall Pirates to the NCAA tournament championship game in 1989 before moving up to the NBA. His other most notable career moment was being choked by Latrell Sprewell, one of his Golden State Warriors players. Sprewell’s career came to an unexpected end in 2005 when he refused a $21-million three-year contract offer from the Timberwolves, which he implied would not be enough to feed his children. Since that time, he has made headlines for grounding his million dollar yacht, having two of his homes foreclosed upon, and being prohibited from seeing his children.

Seton Hall’s best performance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (“March Madness”) was in 1989 when they advanced to their one and only (so far) appearance in the championship game. They played against Michigan in that game, pushed them to overtime at 71-71 at the end of regulation, before losing 80-79.

Two days before that tournament’s first game, Michigan’s Steve Fisher was promoted from assistant coach to interim coach to replace Bill Frieder, who accepted a position to coach Arizona State. Michigan Athletic Director Bo Schembechler told Frieder not to bother showing up for the tournament once he announced he had accepted the job.

I’m having trouble finding this information. Can anyone point me to a reference for it? According to Wikipedia the NBA record is held by Scott Skiles with 30 assists in one game.

Years after his first appearance in the classic Chuck Jones cartoon “One Froggy Evening,” the singing/dancing amphibian was given the name “Michigan J. Frog.”

Songs sung by Michigan J. Frog are:

I’m Just Wild About Harry
The Michigan Rag
Hello! Ma Baby
Come Back to Éireann
Throw Him Down McCloskey
Largo al factotum
Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone
Moonlight Bay
The Prisoner’s Song
Yankee Doodle
Let The Rest Of The World Go By

In spite of its name, Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag does not have any connexion to Canada.

In Canada, Quebec is the only official all-French province. The only official bilingual province in Canada is New Brunswick.

In terms of acreage, Quebec is the largest Canadian province.

The “Eye of Quebec”, the Lac Manicouagan Reservoir, is the sixth-largest confirmed impact crater known on earth. It is easily spotted on maps of Quebec, and it is about an 800-mile drive from New York City.

D’oh! You are absolutely right. I knew I should have looked that up before posting it. I got the wrong Scott. :smack:

ON

Hockey’s Quebec Nordiques played in Quebec City from 1972-95; they played in the World Hockey Association until '79 before moving to the NHL. In 1995 they relocated to Denver and became the Colorado Avalanche, where they promptly won their first of two Stanley Cups-- becoming the only NHL team to win a championship in the year immediately following a relocation. It was also Denver’s first major professional sports championship.

Off: Cool, no worries. I was wondering if there was other information out there, or if you were smoking something better than I was.

On: The former New England Whalers played in the WHA out of the Hartford Civic Center from 1972-1979. They became the Hartford Whalers and joined the NHL from 1979-1997. In 1997 they moved to Raleigh, NC and became the Carolina Hurricanes.

Throughout most of these years the song they played after scoring, and after the horn sounds (even in Raleigh), is “Brass Bonanza.”

Flag Officer David Glasgow Farragut made his immortal declaration, “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!” from the rigging of his flagship, the USS Hartford, during the 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay.

The “torpedos” Farragut referred to are what would today be called mines.

Canada’s first and second Prime Ministers were born in Scotland, not Canada. Sir John A. Macdonald was born in Glasgow. Alexander Mackenzie was born in Logierait, near Perth.

Perth is the fourth most populous city in Australia, behind Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
