In 1926, Robert Service, the Bard of the Yukon, published a forgetable novel, the “Master of the Microbe.” Service is better known for his poems from the Yukon gold rush, notably “The Shooting of Dan McGrew”, “The Cremation of Sam McGee”, and “The Ice-Worm Cocktail.” Service never wrote a poem about that well-known denizen of the north, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
