Same here, and I guessed wrong…
But if they ever ask this at my trivia night, I’ll be sure to remember it!

Little hamlet named Baudette Minnesota. My then-husband and I lived there one summer. All I remember is being surprised at how hot and humid it weas, and taking a trip to see the start of the Mississippi River.
Congratulations; once Sarah Palin is elected President, you’ve got a job in the State Department.
It’s sort of off topic, but if you want your mind blown, compare the latitude of various American and Canadian places with their European counterparts.
I don’t think anyone ever thinks of Milwaukee as a warm destination, but Milwaukee is further south than Marseilles. Toronto is substantially further south than Milan. London, England is further north than any point in the entire continguous 48 states. Edmonton, the northernmost metropolis in North America, is south of Copenhagen or Edinburgh.
Also freaky, but look at a map if you don’t believe me; it would make almost as much sense to call South America “East America” and North America “West America.”
The maps do screwy things with the perception of where things are in the US. Since I’m from Minnesota, I’m rather peeved that the east coast bias thinks that it is so far north. I’m living in New Jersey now, and people here act like it is one of the coldest places on earth. Fun fact: my office is northern New Jersey is at pretty much the same latitude as Omaha, Nebraska.
Other fun fact from my time living in the Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Florida areas. Cleveland, Ohio, is pretty much due north of Miami.
And head due north from Gadsden, Arizona and you’ll soon be in Mexico.
(I got it right.)
I had a geography teacher back in middle school that asked us this same question when he was trying to show us how flat maps can distort where things are really located. Had it not been for that I’m sure I’d have guessed Maine.
Ah, so about as close to the Angle as you can get without getting wet (or getting Canadian), but not quite IN the Angle. Did anybody ever talk about it, as in “I’m heading up to the Angle this weekend”? God, that would be cool.
Well I’m a sheep dip, I thought it was Maine.
I thought it was either Maine or Minnesota. I went with the wrong one because I could have sworn I’d seen this question before and that was the answer but after some of the other similar trivia questions were mentioned I may just have had the right answer to the wrong question. But at least I’m not alone.
Let’s just say you’re not going to want me on your team next season… both my first and second guesses were wrong!! :smack:
I’m from that state, plus I’m a map geek. I’d better know the answer.
I knew about that little piece of Minnesota that sticks up into Canada.
I knew the right answer from a collection of geographic trivia. Other fun ones were which city is farther west (A) Reno, NV or (B) Los Angeles, CA - answer is Reno. And supposedly the closest American beach to El Paso, Texas is the Pacific at San Diego, CA, not the Gulf Coast of Texas.
Here’s another: St. Johns, Newfoundland is closer to Africa than it is to Calgary, Alberta.
