This popular politician has been in his current office for the last eight years. Comparing him to any other counterpart would be like comparing apples to oranges.

Another clue … HE wears glasses.

Alan Greenspan?
It’s not Greenspan. He was appointed to his current position by Reagan in 1987. It’s not really a political post, either.
The politican’s names is obviously a play on words - something fruit-related. I’d guess Mac Thornberry (R-TX), congressman for the 13th district of Texas. He was first elected in 1992. He doesn’t wear glasses in his official picture, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
Some slack for the rookie? I thought I may have posted in the wrong board … I saw someone else get a wrist slap for that.
Barney Frank?
He’s a fruit…
schplebordnik, you’re a jerk. Did you miss the sign at the door about fighting ignorance? Insulting gay people is pretty damn ignorant.
Based on the question, I’d guess the answer is a fictional politician, not a real one.
How long has “Spin City” been on the air? Maybe it’s Barry Bostwick, who’s been “mayor” of New York City the whole time.

Well, this thread is off to a good start…
Anyway, could you re-phrase the riddle? Is there more you are not telling us?
Yes, rustymaize. In your Cafe Society thread you mentioned a photo of part of the man’s face. Could you provide the link to the question and the image?
One other name comes to mind. “Apples and oranges” could refer to the Big Apple, New York. It might be Rudy Giuliani.
Damn astorian. It’s so obvious! Nice work.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen Giuliani wear glasses.
He absolutely does.
That is most definitely the ear. Lobal attachment matches perfectly. Thin, dark frame on the glasses.
I would post the link to the picture here, but then you might all submit your answers and steal my prize. Then again, the competition for a free hearing aid is probably pretty light.
I’m from NY … can’t believe I didn’t think of that one. I was stuck on the names. Any proof that he’s been in office over 8 years? I’ve done a little bit of searching, but not much. It seems like a lifetime, and it must be the max for mayor since he’s about to be replaced … so I definitely wouldn’t doubt it.
Thanks astorian
Rusty- now that I think of it, Rudy Giuliani has been in office almost exactly 8 years. In fact, that’s why he has to leave office. New York City has a term limits law that restricts a mayor to 2 terms in office.
He was elected in 1993, replacing David Dinkins.
