Trivia question: U.S. Presidents

Andrew Johnson served briefly in the US Senate, before his death. Many of the same Senators were still serving, who had sat in judgment during Johnson’s impeachment trial.

They say Taft was happier as CJ than as President. His “poor poor pitiful me” attitude as President, after Roosevelt turned against him, was a little bit pathetic.

Yeah, that’s it.

Roosevelt served McKinley’s 1st term, then elected, but refused another and supported Taft. When TR wanted to run again in 1912, they fought and it split the party and handed the Presidency to Wilson.

True, Taft never really liked the office that much and enjoyed his lifelong dream of serving as CJ better, nominated by Harding, another Ohio born Pres.

TR served the balance of McKinley’s second term (Sept. 1901-March 1905).

I’ve always been interested in the Presidency. Some more trivia questions for you:

Who’s the only man to be elected directly to the Presidency from the House of Representatives?

Who’s the only ambidextrous President who could write Greek and Latin simultaneously?

Who was shot in the presence of the Secretary of State?

  1. Hayes (?)
  2. Garfield
  3. Mckinley

Who had a secretary named Lincoln?

Who had a secretary named Kennedy?
mmm

  1. No
  2. Yes
  3. No

As for Kennedy/Lincoln, that’s been around for awhile, and is false. See about halfway down here: Are These 'Coincidences' Linking Lincoln to Kennedy Real? | Snopes.com

I guess I should have used :D:D instead of just :D.
mmm

I gotcha.

Yes, sorry meant 2nd term.

That would be another Ohio native, Garfield. I have also toured his home, Lawnfield, in Mentor on US Route 20.

He is buried in Cleveland, in the basement crypt of the visitor center at Lakeview Cemetery.

Without looking I believe Garfield taught the languages, but I don’t know about being able to write with both hands.

Reagan?

Yes, the ambidextrous (and multitalented) President was Garfield.

The answer to the last question is not Reagan.

Hmm, not that many shot? McKinley in Buffalo?

My final guess, I will say Garfield, as he was shot outside DC in the train station, but not sure?

EL, how many President’s born in Ohio are NOT buried in Ohio?

No peeking! The National First Ladies Museum is in the former home of what 1st Lady, this home was before she married?

No Peking! Who was the first President to visit China as President?

That one is easy, NIXON!

Lucy Hayes

One of my favorite presidential factoids is that for a few days, we had a sitting President married to a sitting Senator.

Correct. All three of my questions had one answer: Garfield.

Some more questions for you:

  • Don’t look: How many stars on the President’s flag, in all?

  • Don’t look: How many stars on the Vice President’s flag, in all?

Besides John Quincy Adams, there was also John Tyler - sort of. He was a representative the Provisional Confederate Congress and was subsequently elected to the Confederate House of Representatives (but died before being sworn in).
