Troll Hunter - Blair Witch done right - open spoilers maybe

Haven’t seen Troll Hunter but it’s on my to watch list.

Have seen Rare Exports. A great movie and lots of fun.

Troll Hunter is a great movie, satire, but very well made. It starts a little slow, but hang in there, the wait is worth it. I didn’t find Rare Exports or Blair Witch to be anywhere near as good. I have heard there is a Troll Hunter II in the works.

Not really sure what you mean by ‘the characters are idiots’ in Blair Witch. I get that you hated the movie, a lot of people did, but the characters were just supposed to be ordinary, college-age, aspiring journalists. What did they do that was idiotic? As far as them getting lost, that was just part of the whole ‘curse’ element, them walking past the same tree etc.

I haven’t seen Troll Hunter so I can’t comment on it, but even if Blair Witch wasn’t your cup of tea, it was still an amazingly original, effective, no-frills thriller. A near perfect execution of the phrase “Less is more”. The way it showed the characters slow descent from enthusiasm, to curiosity, to confusion, to concern, to fear, to terror, and eventually to total despair and helpless resignation of their fate, was brilliant. Amazing too in the way it was made, with no crew and only limited, written direction from the producer/directors.

And I’ve never understood the whole ‘shaky cam’ issue. I don’t get car or air sick, but I do get seasick easily, but I’ve never ever felt the slightest tinge of motion sickness from merely watching a handheld-shot movie.

I can kind of appreciate BW as a character study of some odd sort. I’d never call it amazing or brilliant but at least on that level it works to some degree.
As a horror movie it’s a failure.
It’s not that those of us who didn’t find it scare have no imagination, it’s that BW gave so little to work with.
This sums it up pretty well…

Loved Troll Hunter, after watching it I was inspired to do some more research on trolls in Scandinavian folk-lore - always a good result from a movie.

I took me a few viewings to get the:

troll trap with three goats on top of a bridge joke and the discussion around whether a troll could

smell the blood of Muslims like it could with Christians was great.

Loved that movie, especially how funny it ended up being despite being fairly dramatic. My friends loathed it on the other hand, and bring it up every time they feel like questioning my taste in movies. I don’t mind though, they are entitled to their wrong opinions. Loved the bit at the end where the editing makes it look like the actual prime minister of Norway at the time comes out and says “Norway has trolls”.
