Where do you live? I’m in San Fran, and it’s availale on demand through June 9th (tomorrow).
Joe
DC. I don’t know anything about on-demand. All I saw was the theater schedule.
Aha I see. I will definitely drop a 10-spot on this when I get home tonight.
I added it to my Netflix queue!
I’m watching it on TV tonight for free!
It’s a free sneak preview on the HDNET Movies channel.
somebody report back and tell me whether or not i should watch it despite the subtitle issue?
my complaint about them is i have to divide my time between what’s happening on screen and what the actors are saying. more work than i want to put in to watching a movie.
in spite of myself i do own two movies that require them: ‘the host’ (THE **best **damn monster movie i’ve ever seen - and i’ve seen a lot of them… if you’ve never seen ‘the host,’ run do not walk, to your nearest dvd source, and do so, tout suite), and pan’s labyrinth. which is probably the better-known of the two.
both superb films, but i find subtitles annoying as hell to deal with. with ‘the host’ i can switch to an english-language version on the dvd, but korean actors dealing with english dialogue lends that that chop-socky feel to it, which detracts from the film itself and that’s not fair. ‘the host’ is an amazing achievement.
with ‘pan’ of course there IS no english-language version. i still haven’t forgiven del toro for not allowing an english language version to be included on the dvd. but, he didn’t consult with me.
Thanks for the info! Just added it to my DVR. I hope it will help me understand my Norwegian roots.
[nitpick]
I heard this about The Host from lots of people online and so I got a copy when I found it on sale for $10.
What a friggin’ waste of time and money that movie was.
It’s pure shite. Idiots doing stupid things for 2 hours. Really REALLY stupid movie.
I sold it to my local Zia the day after I watched it for $1 and thought I got off easy with the $9+2 hour loss.
Here’s the review I posted on IMDB (spoilered because it does contain a couple of minor spoilers):
Terrible CGI. Terrible acting. Terrible script. Terrible storytelling. Others have already written details on why it was so bad, but count me as another one who felt duped into giving up my cash and 2 hours of my life to watch this un-suspenseful, non-campy piece of crap.
The box contains a “review” that compares it to Jaws, but there is no comparison except that sometimes water is involved and the monster may be part fish. Part fish and part gymnast, judging by it’s preferred method of locomotion. All of the characters continually do stupid things and then do them poorly. In the end, one guy actually mis-throws his last Molotov cocktail during the “climactic” end fight, dropping it behind himself. The hero of the fight is a nameless bum who is only on screen for about 40 seconds of the entire movie. Stupid stupid stupid movie. Don’t waste your time or your money. Don’t waste the bandwidth to stream it from Netflix. Move along; nothing (worth seeing) to see here.
Thus far Troll Hunter is getting similarly glowing reviews, but I learned my lesson: When there’s any doubt at all, Netflix it first; at least that way you only waste time if it sucks ass.
I thought it was going to be a movie about internet trolls, which has the potential to be extremely interesting. But no, just a monster movie. No thanks!
It was a decent little movie, but a lot of the Norwegian humor went over my head. It’s shot as a fake documentary, like Cloverfield, but the shaky cam was tolerable.
Fun movie. Needs a stronger third act, but still entertaining.
That Hans guy has ice in his veins!
Meh. Think I’ll pass.
:I’m still licking the wounds inflicted by **Snowboarder Bo **dissin’ my movie.
Just caught it on on demand. I enjoyed it, but I like monster movies. this combined a lot of good elements from other films, and I got the humor. It was an interesting take on traditional myths and the effects are great.
I remember reading somewhere that in Iceland, an embarrassingly high percentage of the population actually believe in elves and fairies and shit, is this true in the other Nordic countries as well?
Agree completely. Plus it had utterly gorgeous shots of the Norwegian landscape.
Apparently there were a lot of jokes that you have to be familiar with Norwegian fairy tales to get - like the 3 sheep on the bridge.
And Hans must use that trailer just to carry his balls around.
Just saw it. Pretty good movie. Nothing really that special about or mindblowing about it, but it was a good watch.
However that last scene was an absolutely awesome shot.
